Veteran governess Laura Grey joins the Selwick Spy School expecting to find elaborate disguises and thrilling adventures in service to the spy known as the Pink Carnation. She hardly expects her first assignment to be serving as governess for the children of André Jaouen, right-hand man to Bonaparte's minister of police. At first the job is as lively as Latin, but Laura begins to notice Jaouen's increasingly strange behavior. As Laura edges closer to her employer, she is surprised to learn that she has much in common with him. And Jaouen finds he's hired more than he's bargained for...

This was really between a pick and a so-so for me. I liked the historical fiction, but I didn't think that the modern-day storyline of Eloise and Colin needed to be included.

This is what the TBR Jar picked for me to read next, and it's on my list of books for #LitsyAtoZ. #O #coffeeandabook #TBRJar

AlaMich I really need to do a TBR jar. I get so bogged down sometimes in choosing my next book, I frustrate myself. 5y
CoffeeNBooks @AlaMich I just made my TBR jar recently, and I really like it! It definitely makes choosing the next book easier! 📚 5y

I enjoy this series a lot but I think so far, this one is favorite. It was probably because the heroine is closer to my age than any in the other books and she had great wit. There was just enough intrigue and romance to make it interesting. I hope these characters show up in future books. #pinkcarnation #romance #historicalfiction #laurenwillig #read

EloisaJames I love the series--so clever, right back to the first one! 7y

Such a great series! As usual, I thought the historical story was stronger than the contemporary plot line, but I still enjoyed it thoroughly.

RebeccaSpeas I adore this series! I agree with you that the historical plot is stronger than Eloise's, but by the last book she and Colin also had a special place in my heart :) 8y
annahenke @RebeccaSpeas I did think Eloise's story had a bit more substance in this one, so glad to hear the trend will continue! 8y
raelaschoenherr Toward the end of the series, I just started skimming the Eloise parts 😕 8y
annahenke @raelaschoenherr well, I guess we'll see! I wish the stories were more balanced for sure. 8y

Made a little progress on this one while waiting at the doctor's office this morning. This is such a fun, lighthearted series.

moranadatter This series is great. I've been listening to the audiobooks while working. 8y
annahenke @kmdartist how fun! I can't listen to audiobooks while working, being a copywriter. I would get too confused! 8y
moranadatter @ahenke Yeah, I can't listen while writing either. Which is your favorite book in the series? 8y
