#20Series20Days - Day 4

So I feel bad recommending this series, because it‘s only 2 books. I have no idea if the author plans to write anymore in this world. I really enjoyed them, but I don‘t know if it counts as a series.

Set in Maine 1898, Ruby is a psychic and hiding out from authorities at a seaside inn her estranged aunt owns. A psychic investigator checks into the hotel. There is a murder and Ruby gets wrapped up in the investigation.

rubyslippersreads These sound intriguing. 4y

Mehso-so

This book failed to really hold my attention. The set up for the story was good, but the pace kind of dragged and the dialogue was unnatural. While I mostly liked the main character and most of her lies and deceptions were generally harmless, I feel like there were a couple of instances where I feel like she needed to show more integrity.

This takes place in 1898. This seems anachronistic. Radios were not in homes yet at this time I don't think, so I don't think someone would make this comparison.

Some of the favorite books I've read this year. Most of the books I've read this year I got from the library, so these were some of my favs on my shelves. I really liked The Fifth Season and The Shadow and Bone series, which I don't own, but I loved! #booksacrossoceans

This book was really good. It did have a lot going on, but everything was resolved and tied up nicely at the end of the story. I enjoyed reading this book! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This was a very enjoyable, cozy sort of Victorian mystery. I'm quite guilty of liking Victorian mysteries with a "spiritualist" slant. I love that it started out in Canada 1898, before the main characters "moves" to the US to be with her Aunt. I hope to see more from Jennifer Estevao.

annahenke Oh my gosh. I love this niche category, too! 8y
