Death of a Hussy | M. C. Beaton
5 posts | 17 read | 2 to read
From the author of the Agatha Raisin television series...DEATH OF A HUSSY: A Hamish Macbeth MysteryAbout the best that can be said of wealthy Maggie Baird is that inside her middle-aged body, there still beats the heart of a beautiful tart. So when her car catches fire with Maggie in it, there are five likely suspects right on the premises of her luxurious Highlands cottage. Lochdubh police constable Hamish Macbeth has to question Maggie's timid niece and four former lovers, one of whom Maggie had intended to pick for her husband. All five are equally poor-with ample motive and opportunity to monkey with Maggie's car. Now to find the killer, the astute lawman must apply his extraordinary insight into human nature. But when the evidence appears to point to the wrong person entirely, Hamish must dig down deep to stop the real murderer's escape.

Inside Maggie Baird there still beats the heart of a tart. When her car catches fire and she dies, there are 5 likely suspects right at her house: Maggie‘s timid niece and four former lovers, one of whom Maggie had intended to marry.

EadieB Finding the murderer will require Police Constable Hamish Macbeth‘s common sense and insight into human nature. This book is number 5 in the Hamish Macbeth series. The characters are ones that you love to hate and the plot is such that it causes you to keep reading until the very end of the book. I will definitely be reading more of Hamish Macbeth as he does have a spot in my heart. 10mo

You might have known people really do dress up for dinner in the Highlands.

Forgot to do this yesterday!

Mehso-so

I liked this one better than I liked the last one I read; the misogyny is still there but it‘s less egregious. I didn‘t predict the murderer at all.

Another fantastic mystery for Hamish Macbeth to solve! I really enjoyed this book!
I am finding myself starting to love the disliking relationship between Macbeth and Blaire! There have been so many hilarious moments in each of these books so far!
Definitely worth the read and highly recommended.

Another very enjoyable visit to Lochdubh, but it doesn't start off well for Hamish - they have shut the village Police station down and sent him to work in a nearby town. If you ever go to Lochdubh make sure you behave yourself, as anyone that is not nice gets murdered. Once again Hamish comes to the rescue in finding the murderer. An interesting ending to the book which may set it up for future books.
