LA REINE MARGOT (1845) is a novel of suspense and drama which recreates the violent world of intrigue, murder, and duplicity of the French Renaissance. This revised edition of the classic translation of 1846 is richly annotated. An Introduction sets Dumas and his works in their literary, historical, and cultural context.

Pickpick

This book is a bit over the top. I'm pretty sure it's more fiction than historical. At least I hope so. Otherwise these people were just straight up crazy. But there's this awesome movie that came out in the 1990s so I had to read it. And if you liked his other books this is very on brand.

#royals. One is a book I loved as a teenager, one is a book I'm currently reading and not liking that much, one is a book I read recently and liked a lot, and the final book is one I have been dying to read and will get to this year. Can you guess which is which?

La Reine Margot takes place in the French Court of Charles IX (1572). It is full of intrigue, betrayal, passion... There's even a death by book! Alexandre Dumas wrote an engrossing tale. My romantic heart only wishes the love story was between people who were free to be together.

Today on Steph reads La Reine Margot: Coconnas really loves La Môle. The Duchesse de Nevers is feeling left out. (This is not really an exaggeration) Also thank you for putting up with my Dumas geekery; I promise I read other things too. ?

BookNerdBritt Haha, I feel I should issue a similar disclaimer for Harry Potter 😬 8y

And today on the adventures of badass noble ladies and the sword bros who love them... (Not really a spoiler. This is basic plot.)

"No family rivalry, no treachery in love; everything fair, open, and aboveboard! An offensive and defensive alliance, for the sole purpose of finding and, if we can, catching on the fly, that ephemeral thing called happiness." (When you're a Queen, but your best friend has your back because it sucks to be a woman in 16th C France)
