How to Be a Wallflower
How to Be a Wallflower: A Would-Be Wallflowers Novel | Eloisa James
12 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
From New York Times bestseller Eloisa James, a new Regency-set novel in which a heiress with the goal of being a wallflower engages a rugged American in a scorchingly sensual, witty wager that tests whether clothing does indeed make the man--or the wallflower! Miss Cleopatra Lewis is about to be launched in society by her aristocratic grandfather. But since she has no intention of marrying, she visits a costume emporium specifically to order unflattering dresses guaranteed to put off any prospective suitors. Powerful and charismatic Jacob Astor Addison is in London, acquiring businesses to add to his theatrical holdings in America--as well as buying an emerald for a young lady back in Boston. He's furious when a she-devil masquerading as an English lady steals Quimby's Costume Emporium from under his nose. Jake strikes a devil's bargain, offering to design her "wallflower wardrobe" and giving Cleo the chance to design his. Cleo can't resist the fun of clothing the rough-hewn American in feathers and flowers. And somehow in the middle of their lively competition, Jake becomes her closest friend. It isn't until Cleo becomes the toast of all society that Jake realizes she's stolen his fiercely guarded heart. But unlike the noblemen at her feet, he doesn't belong in her refined and cultured world. Caught between the demands of honor and desire, Jake would give up everything to be with the woman he loves--if she'll have him!

As close to sports as I generally get. Tagged the first book read-- no spoilers. Can you guess which one comes out on top for me? https://youtu.be/DinTdWeRPl0?si=5Oqps3kEnaanthCJ

I bought this when it came out (pour one out for the mass max) but hadn‘t gotten to it yet — which may have been fate as it heavily features a former heroine whose book I just finally also read (My American Duchess)

Late to the party but bumped it up from my book backlog before I read the latest in the series. This was a sweet surprise and a nice lift to a dreary week. Jake and Cleo are not your typical matchup. Enemies to lovers but Jake is so disarmingly honest, how could Cleo doubt his intentions?

This was a cute historical book rom-com about a reluctant lady heiress and an uncouth American businessman. Though the third act was a bit of a mess, I still enjoyed this and it was a quick fun read. 4⭐️

Last day of my staycation so this is my last holiday audiobook . It‘s a reread ( I read the ebook earlier this year). This one has the hallmark humour & heat of an Eloisa James historical romance. A nice way to spend a rainy day. #romantsy

Welp this was exactly what it says on the tin, a light somewhat comical historical romance that follows the conventions of the genre. I will say despite this being the first of a new series it also acts as a sequel to My American Duchess. I liked Cleo and Jake as the leads and look forward to seeing them as side characters when the next one comes out.

#BookReport
I conquered the chonky boi and there was much rejoicing. I also finished the second Dragon Heart Legacy book in audio.

#WeeklyForecast
I'm still working on the Mistborn trilogy in audio while I do some #AudioGaming and hope to finish it this week as the gaming event also ends after this upcoming week. I decided to take palate cleanser and eye read a light romance which I'll probably finish sometime today or tomorrow.

With its atypical characters, zany humor, low conflict, and modern sensibility, How to Be a Wallflower would suit readers looking for light and fluffy books to escape to during these fraught times.

The book's main characters are two of the quirkiest leads in historical romance I've ever read.

As per usual with Ms. James, expect plenty of Shakespeare and cheeky servants. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
