Marco Carrera, who had a growth disorder as a child, has been called 'the hummingbird'. But in a sense Marco is a hummingbird: he lives a dramatic life, full of love and heartbreak, but remains in perfect balance. His movements enable him to survive the existential acrobatics of life, just like a hummingbird.

Thank you to my two wonderful #LitsyToB friends for these gorgeous gifts, for both Henry and myself!

Meg, as you know, Henry has had crinkly teddy for a week or so now, but he‘s still loving him. He adores the 🌵 too, Barbara - chewy toys are always good!

The Hummingbird is one I‘ve had on my TBR since both you and @Cinfhen loved it, Barbara. And, Meg, I will always be jealous that you get to go to Parnassus and it‘s such a lovely book! ❤️

squirrelbrain Hope you‘ve both a had lovely, relaxing day. 😘😘 3mo

Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. I loved Veronesi‘s book Quiet Chaos in the past and this one is just as good. It‘s about a man who we follow through his life which is a life filled with sorrow and resilience. It is about love and family and unique encounters and it‘s very Italian. And quiet. I loved it.

Thank you for knowing me so well Cindy and sending me this gem!

I loved this book. It centres around Marco & his family. I loved the eccentricities, the sense of irony and the feeling of being in Italy. The flavour & sensibility of the story felt Italian even though I was reading in translation. The characters felt real (but the granddaughter who was exaggerated) with quirks & flaws. Some have thought the ending sugary but I was all in & moved by it. A layered, immersive read, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cinfhen OMG!! The color of the sky 😍book sounds great too!! 1y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen we are finally into spring, but La Niŋa giving us clouds again today! 1y
Cinfhen I immediately bought this book on your recommendation and finally just read it this past weekend! I LOVED it too!! The writing and revealing was incredible. Marco was such a great character and I adored all the people who came in & out of his life. Soooo good. 11mo

Mehso-so

This was a bit of an up and down. There were many scenes I liked and enjoyed, but there were maybe just as many pages where I felt bored and my thoughts were drifting off. Overall I got the feeling Veronesi wanted to write a new Leopard, which of course doesn't work. He just tried too hard. If he'd focused more on his own strengths, the book woud've turned out pretty good...
