It's a simple story but well told.

A very moving story about woman looking for her Dad.

It is a very short read. About a man who's waiting for his wife to come home. But there's a time shift that makes it more interesting.
Good but not great.

Frozen Woman | Annie Ernaux

Mehso-so

This is my second book by this author, after reading The Place. I wasn't totally convinced by it so I decided to give it a second chance. I guess there must be something that gets lost in the translation from French because I seem to be inmune to Ernaux"s writing. Her writing seems devoid of feeling, just a succession of events or thoughts. This book in particular seemed to be a list of complaints about motherhood.

This book had been on my reading list for a long time but I couldn't find it, so I was glad when I was able to get a copy.
It is hard read. Short, brutally honest, brave and terribly sad.

I had heard so much praise about the author that I decided to give it a chance. But I confirmed what I already knew: that I wouldn't like it.
Some stories sound like spooky stories for kids and others are unnecessarily grotesque and gruesome. I found them distasteful.

I absolutely loved it.
I read it in one day. Honest, humble, full of insight. I will definitely be reading more by Emilie Pine.

I hadn't read short stories for so long that I had to get used to them again.
What I liked the most was the author"s ability to bring all the character to life.

A brutal, honest book. Well written. Those books you can't put down. Empathy building real story.

It's a yes. Though it took me longer than I expected to finish it. I had read so much praise for this book that maybe, I expected more.

A not very enthusiastic "yes", though.
I have recently read three books by this author and this is the one I like best. But I am not a fan. Her prose is lacking something, it seems a bit plain at times.
But this one is short and entertaining.

A strange, very enlightening book. It's funny to some some stories super revealing and some others a complete bore. It is interesting to see which stories resonate with you, and why.

I loved this one. A very honest, brutal story of a suffering family.

It might be unfair to say they it is not a good book. I started out well but I lost interest midway through. I tried to give it a chance, but there are so many other books I'd like to read!

This is my current read and I've got to say I'm not totally hooked by it. I may have had very high expectations when I started it but it's taking me longer than expected to finish it.
(I also went back to work this week. That's not helping either)

Any Spanish readers here?
