The Sigh
The Sigh | Marjane Satrapi
6 posts | 7 read | 11 to read
From the author of Persepolis, comes this illustrated fairy tale. Rose is one of three daughters of a rich merchant who always brings gifts for his girls from the market. One day Rose asks for the seed of a blue bean, but he fails to find one for her. She lets out a sigh in resignation, and her sigh attracts the Sigh, a mysterious being that brings the seed she desired to the merchant. But every debt has to be paid, and every gift has a price, and the Sigh returns a year later to take the merchant's daughter to a secret and distant palace.

Welp. I don‘t want to read any of the books I own. Not one of them. This is how I end up with so many books. I‘ve been so good this year and have only acquired three ebooks - and one was part of a series I‘m reading. Sigh......

LibrarianRyan I get that. I really do. 5y
CoverToCoverGirl The addition is real! 😂🤣🤷‍♀️ Don‘t fight it embrace it. I know I most likely have more books than I‘ll ever read and the problem is compounded by the fact the they just keep writing more books and Littens being Littens just keep recommending more books! 🥰❤️ 5y
jpmcwisemorgan @CoverToCoverGirl I meant to clean up my Amazon wish list/stacked books on Litsy last year but I didn‘t. I‘ve been cleaning out my bookshelves because I honestly have more books than I‘ll ever read and I want to not feel that pressure. Also, I realized I was spending a lot of money on books and last year I focused more on paying down my student loans and I want to continue that this year. Plus, there are so many recommendations from Littens. 5y
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan I have even saved books from authors I like for just this sort of occasion but even that‘s not working. 😬 5y

Don't like this one much either.

Fairytale retelling. Very bland.

I seem to be having one of those runs of middling books, or I'm in one of those moods where I'm dissatisfied with everything I read. I may have to read the next #ookbookclub book, even if I am early and it is a Rincewind story #readerproblems

Ashley85 Same here! 6y
Moray_Reads @Ashley85 so frustrating! 6y

Reecaspieces I hate it when that happens! 6y
ravenlee I've been having similar troubles. Trying to decide if it's worth shelving a couple to try again later, or if it's not just my mood. Ugh. 6y

Marjane Satrapi authored a retelling of an Iranian fairy tale with a beautiful cover? I was sold. I am honestly really disappointed. The translation was a bit weak. It included fairy tale tropes I am less than fond of (love at first sight), and featured some weird plot points that were not ideal (selling yourself into slavery as punishment will solve your problems apparently!). It did feature some really fun weirdness that made it worth my time.

An oddly lovely fable. Felt familiar, yet not. Felt traditional, yet not. Surprising, succinct, sweet.
And a physically beautiful book inside and out.
#24in48 #readathon intermission title 💕

andreadmw Oh I had no idea she had another book. Read Persepolis last year and loved it. 7y
ValerieAndBooks I didn't know she had a new one out! I have four of her works. 7y
elkeOriginal @ValerieAndBooks @andreadmw It's not new - looks like it pubbed in 2011...just new to me 😉 7y
ValerieAndBooks Wow, I don't know how I missed that; that's been a while already. Definitely have to get it eventually! 7y
andreadmw @elkeo LOL, and clearly new to me 😊I don't keep up as well as I should with comics. Love them but I'm not great on checking on all the releases all the time. So I miss things like this. 7y
