My 1st book of 2023! I really flew through this book! It tells the story of Ellen Saint, a woman who has lost her son in a “careless driver” accident at the hands of Kieran, one of her son‘s friends whom she has never able to tolerate. Years later she sees Kieran, which is impossible since she had him killed. I really enjoyed the twists in this one- all the way to the very end! I will check out more of Candlish‘s books!

Bailing at just under 100 pages in. Not enjoying it one bit.

Great level of domestic drama for a weekend read. Shifting perspectives are used well to present the crises and relationships in the novel from different angles so it felt like the ground was constantly shifting underneath me. Well-paced and compellingly constructed. I recommend it as an captivating weekend read.

I got to page 172, 41%. Although the book was fine up to that point, I just never felt the urge to return to it. I did skim the last couple chapters to find out the “shocking” revelations. Mostly predictable but some unexpected. The book wasn‘t bad, just not for me at this time.

I had the last week off and spent lots of time reading. This was the fourth book I‘ve finished. Candlish always comes through with a solid psychological thriller. I‘d say I‘m between a pick and a so-so for this one. 3⭐️

Ellen loses her son in a car accident and becomes obsessed with the friend who she believes caused the accident. Louise Candlish is one of my favorite thriller writers and she doesn‘t disappoint here. I could barely put it down

Mothers always know best don't they?

There is an underlying tension throughout, and you know something bad did happen and is going to happen, but what is it?

The book did drag a bit, but the overall story line ends well.

Surprises and the characters will keep you turning the pages.  4/5

I really liked this. Much of the book was told from Ellen‘s point of view and it was easy (at least for me) to get caught up in her anger and her adrenaline! The book did also show the POV of Ellen‘s ex (and Lucas‘ father) Vic. This certainly brought some interesting information and twists to light, but his POV was more business-like and so I wasn‘t quite as caught up. At the same time, This showed how obsessed she was (rightly or wrongly).

I very nearly sent this one back to the library about a quarter of the way into it. I‘ve read enough Candlish to expect unreliable narrators and wild twists. I kept going and I‘m glad I did as I liked it in the end. I should have written down all the theories I had at that quarter way mark - I reckon about half of them were right, but there was more I hadn‘t thought of, and besides it‘s the excellent characters that make these, not the twists.

Book 26 - 2021 I couldn‘t quite get into this book. I didn‘t give it up but I felt impatient with it. The characters weren‘t very likable, and it felt as if the author had had lots of good ideas but couldn‘t cram them all in so left faint outlines of all of them instead of really focusing on a couple and giving the story weight. It was hard to know what was unreliable narrator and what was bad editing at times.

Read it in a day, loved it

This is a gripping psychological thriller. It‘s full of twists and turns, it definitely had me on the edge of my seat at times. Ellen is not a woman to be messed with! I‘m not sure I liked her, either, and I really felt for some of the peripheral characters. It takes you on a real rollercoaster of a ride with an ending I certainly didn‘t see coming. Highly recommended. #Pigeonhole
