South Sea Vagabonds
South Sea Vagabonds | Johnny Wray
2 posts | 1 to read
75th anniversary edition of the timeless New Zealand classic of adventure at sea. Johnny Wray's gripping and often hilarious account of his adventures around the South Pacific has inspired readers and changed lives since its first publication 75 years ago. Fired from his day job during the Great Depression, Johnny begged, borrowed and stole the materials to build his famous yacht Ngataki. With some mates for company and a sextant to steer by, he set sail for the palm-fringed atolls and islands of his dreams - to discover they really did exist. But South Sea Vagabonds is much more than just a ripping yarn; it is a heartfelt hymn to the possibility of living a free life and truly being the master of one's own destiny.

I've already read two South Sea Tales by Jack London and Robert Louis Stevenson. Now I'm inspired to read this one after seeing a tiki museum exhibit with @NataliePatalie.

Smrloomis That sounds great 💕 Hope it was a lot of fun! 9mo
Blueberry @Smrloomis it was, followed up by a trip to a Tiki Bar. 🍹🏝️🏖️🍍 9mo

#hiselderliness #bookreport

Well we are halfway through cleaning out His Elderliness house that we all lived in since 1981! The second hand shop is coming today to hopefully buy some “treasures” after the family has all selected their own finds to take home. Dad is finding it all very saddening and he is more confused. However we have a book report!
1) he LOVED South Sea Vagabonds so I‘ve bought him his own copy ⬇️

Centique 2) Off the Road - “it was just okay” 3) Mountain Rescue - “I suppose it was pretty good” then he wrinkles his nose in disgust “it was always the same bloody mountain though” (edited) 3y
Centique Stoopid humans always getting stuck in the same places! 3y
TrishB I hope the move goes ok ♥️ 3y

Cinfhen I feel for your dad and the rest of the family. Change, especially after living somewhere for so long is not easy. Sending lots of love💕💕I‘m sure once your dad gets settled he will appreciate and enjoy his new situation 😄 3y
Cinfhen Love to see the #ElderlinessBookReport 3y
AlaMich I‘m glad that you were able to convince he needed to move. You hear so many stories about folks who refuse and the situation deteriorates quickly. Fingers crossed for a smooth transition! 🤞 3y
Jeg Thinking of you. I remember having to move my dad. My dad settled in well to his new surroundings. We took photos of his favourite things that he couldn‘t keep. Even when his dementia was progressing he would sit and look at the photos and sometimes talk about them. 3y
Centique @Jeg thank you Joy. What a great idea about the photos! We just moved his vintage car and vintage motorbike into a storage unit because he couldn‘t bear to part with them yet. And there are all sorts of other bits I could photograph too. 💕 3y
Rissreads I hope your Dad will be ok in his new place. Such a hard time for you all. Xxx 3y
