A young child and their family are having a wonderful time together celebrating Pride Day—meeting up with Grandma, making new friends and eating ice cream. But then something terrible happens: their dog gets lost in the parade! Luckily, there are lots of people around to help reunite the pup with his family. This rhyming alphabet book tells a lively story, with rich, colorful illustrations that will have readers poring over every detail as they spot items starting with each of the letters of the alphabet. An affirming and inclusive book that offers a joyful glimpse of a Pride parade and the vibrant community that celebrates this day each year.

Whether for a queer family seeing their culture reflected, or as an age-appropriate introduction to young children about the nature of Pride celebrations, this abc book is perfect. Julie McLaughlin‘s bright graphite & digital illustrations are visual puzzles busy with activity & Robin Stevenson‘s rhyming text bounces along with an exciting overarching narrative about a lost dog. Different ABC books are aimed at children with various reading skills. This one can be used for both pre-readers, who are learning the basic concepts of letter shapes and sounds, as well as older children, who will likely enjoy the visual puzzles: the illustrations contain many objects that start with each featured letter. Each page has a lot of action and lends itself to encouraging children to decode visual storytelling.

Lindy One quibble: scenes of morning wake-up and evening bedtime would have been opportunities to show the black mother with her hair wrapped for sleep. 3y

This beautifully illustrated picture book told a sweet story of a lost and recovered pet at a Pride parade. It was an absolute joy to read out loud.

The illustrations were fantastic! The colors were bright and clean, & the style was adorable. The people showcased a wide variety of body types, skin colors, ages, and relationships.

What was unexpectedly fun was a list of words at the end, setting up a scavenger hunt through the story. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
