Jane Austen's Guide to Good Manners
Jane Austen's Guide to Good Manners: Compliments, Charades and Horrible Blunders | Josephine Ross, Henrietta Webb
6 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
How to pay and return formal 'calls'; how to refuse a proposal of marriage; who should lead off the dancing at a country-house ball; what to wear for a morning walk... Today such social niceties are largely ignored or forgotten, but they underpin all of Jane Austen's timeless novels and are explored and dealt with in this highly original book. Written as if intended for Austen's original readers in the Regency era, and illustrated with exquisitely witty watercolours, Jane Austen's Guide to Good Manners is a light-hearted, entertaining and instructive little handbook of etiquette as depicted in Jane's novels and letters. It will not only offer sound wisdom and pearls of advice, but also encourage the modern-day reader to look back at Jane's work with a new and deepened appreciation.

Mehso-so

A quick and dirty guide to Regency etiquette with charming illustrations sprinkled throughout. I enjoyed all of the 'rules' explained and tied to Jane's novels as well as anecdotes from Jane's letters to explain them. I just wish there was more depth.

So, yeah, my mind immediately went to Harry Hart from Kingsman uttering these words before doing some serious ass-kicking... And since Harry and Darcy are played by the same actor my mind then went to a Jane Austen fight club. Because, of course. I am like 900% certain that was not what the authors wanted me to think. Stupid pop culture seeping into everything. 😏

Now that I'm done binge watching Stranger Things (SO GOOD!) I can now get back to regularly scheduled reading. 😅. @Lacythebookworm posted earlier about #7in7readathon taking place this week. Since I'm on staycation all week I figured I'd join in. Here's my #tbr for this challenge

Carol I've also got that Agatha Christie graphic bio on my nightstand! I have high hopes. Good luck with the readathon. I think I need another month before starting another 😂 8y
