A #historicalfiction set in the #17thcentury #England, where Lucy Campion (#chambermaid for a local magistrate) is trying to uncover the truth of her friend's murder. Though it's a light #murdermystery, I enjoy the story so far. #currentread #bookart #bookphotos #bookphotography #calgaryreads #canadareads #read150 #readanythingandeverything #multiplebookreading #passionforreading #readinglife #alwaysbereading #susannacalkins #calgarylibrary

Pickpick

The author does a good job of giving a sense of what was going on during this time period in England in terms of social relations, social stations, the political atmosphere, the religious fears at the time, particularly of the Quakers. The story also gives you a sense of what it was like during the period of the plague in London. If your looking for historical romance there is only a tad. The middle of the book dragged a bit but still good read.

What an unexpected delight! I read this based on the recommendation of Anna Lee Huber, whose Lady Darcy mysteries I sped through this summer. I am so glad this is also the first in a series. I look forward to reading more about Lucy.

annahenke Also really liked this one. 3y
