I really liked this one. Four stars/5. I finished it in two days. (Very quick for me)
It was a family‘s story but also a community‘s story. Heart wrenching on both accounts. Tender on both accounts. Tight, clever and yet lush. It feels like an important book that explores masculinity, racism, poverty, police violence and family.
I know the neighbourhood and have read the newspaper stories.. this book is a much needed contextualization. 🖤

I didn't do too terribly on my Feburary TBR. I read 4 of the 9 books and am about 40% into the 5th.

BookishMe Your tagged in a current read as I attempt to read books with respective months in the titles ;p 1d

Graphic Novel Week! I read Volume 2 to 6 of Paper Girls. It was my series for the month and I was determined to get it done. I read Giant Days Volume 12. Caught up in that series for now! Then, I read Lumberjanes Volume 1 to 3.

The only novel I finished was Company Town.

I am currently reading A Lesson in Secrets and Starsight (audio).

(Picture is my Disco Dog. lol)

Late-in-the-day #bookreport!

I finished THE LAST WISH (blah; I resent the time it took up), BLACK WRITERS MATTER (really good), TO YOUR ETERNITY (really good), and DEAR SCARLET (excellent), and I‘ll finish CITY OF NIGHT before bed.

I made a good start on ESSEX COUNTY.

I finished one Saga, then totally ignored the book. 🤷‍♀️

I read too dammed slowly to squeeze in FIFTH QUARTER. Next week.

#weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

1. Starsight by Brandon Sanderson (audio), Company Town by Madeline Ashby, and Lesson in Secrets by Jacqueline Winspear.
2. The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep. But the Paper Girls series by Brian K. Vaughan is also a great series overall.
3. Beat up books. I do buy used so it happens, but I try not to crack my spines or bend pages. Sometimes books come in the mail already bent and it drives me nuts.

Nostalgia two ways: $1 bills and $1 (+tax) comics.

I can‘t say as I much miss $1 bills, but I have lots of fond memories of my mum buying me cheap comics whenever we stopped for gas.

Mehso-so

I recently read this for our local library book club- a true story- memoir- and it was definitely entertaining. I was engrossed by its graphic... depressing... raw.... emotional... story. It‘s set in the same area where I grew up- so I recognized a lot of places. I‘m not sure if I would recommend to most people, due to its graphic nature and language, but I certainly wanted to see how everything turned out for the author- Lindsay Wong!

I picked Company Town in Bookopoly. I need to finish A Lesson in Secrets. I have Volume 12 of Giant Days. And, I want to finish my read through of Paper Girls.

On the audio front, I have Starsight by Brandon Sanderson loaded and ready.
