pickI‘d give this a low pick; a prequel of sorts to the live-action Mulan movie, I guess. A quick read that shows Mulan as a protective older sister who perpetually disappoints her mother and worries her father.
My first Hoopla borrow for myself, not the kiddo. Another bingo space down! And I totally forgot about the readathon this weekend, and I‘m bummed. Maybe I‘ll jump in tomorrow. I did read a bunch of short tales today for SRP, too.
pickI‘m not a fan of reading movie novels, but this is definitely not one of those. I love how Grace Lin weaves her stories together and I enjoyed this one.
I‘m excited to see the new live action movie (someday), but in the meantime, learning backstory on Mulan and the witch was enjoyable.

pickI absolutely adored this book! Before the Sword is the story of Mulan as a young child and an adventure she takes to save her sister. Throughout the story, Mulan is told “side stories” that all tie-in to her adventure. This book is full of stories from Chines Mythology and Folklore. Now I need to rewatch the Disney Mulan cartoon! On a side note, this is a kindness rock my kiddo found at work yesterday 😀
My library closed for 2 weeks which is just as well because they had cancelled all programs until May 2nd. Today I‘m hoping to finish the last 4 hours of HP on audio while working on house projects. I‘d also love to finish my tagged book and maybe pop a movie in tonight. What‘s everyone else up to?
My deadline has arrived! I haven‘t finished the tagged book, but I‘m going with it. These are June, July & Aug book club choices for grades 4-6 in the fairytale, mythology, folktale genre to tie in with our summer reading program.
On a side note, our library programs have been put on hold until May 2. I‘m going to be bored to tears with no programming!
