An award-winning author tells of a mermaid who leaves the sea in search of her landish mother in a captivating tale spun with beautiful prose, lush descriptions, empathy, and keen wit. Blood calls to blood; charm calls to charm. It is the way of the world. Come close and tell us your dreams. Sanna is a mermaid -- but she is only half seavish. The night of her birth, a sea-witch cast a spell that made Sanna's people, including her landish mother, forget how and where she was born. Now Sanna is sixteen and an outsider in the seavish matriarchy, and she is determined to find her mother and learn who she is. She apprentices herself to the witch to learn the magic of making and unmaking, and with a new pair of legs and a quest to complete for her teacher, she follows a clue that leads her ashore on the Thirty-Seven Dark Islands. There, as her fellow mermaids wait in the sea, Sanna stumbles into a wall of white roses thirsty for blood, a hardscrabble people hungry for miracles, and a baroness who will do anything to live forever. From the author of the Michael L. Printz Honor Book The Kingdom of Little Wounds comes a gorgeously told tale of belonging, sacrifice, fear, hope, and mortality.

This was a The Little Mermaid retelling and I found it to be a charming and fast read. Very creative. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. #100readschallenge

A lyrical, epic literary young adult fantasy of a cursed mermaid who tries to uncover secrets of her past while poltical turmoil brews within the kingdom. With its breathtaking cover and poetic language, this for those high fantasy teen readers.

Got this arc - excited to get to it!

It's a good thing I'm still getting arcs trickling in because my local library system has CLOSED ALL BRANCHES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. 😩😭 I mean, I get it but that just sucks! They're not going to charge you any late fees for the books they're asking you not to return and I can still get ebooks and audiobooks, but. Idk. I'm just kinda bummed about this news. Anyone else's libraries closing?

TheSpineView I want to read that book. Look forward to your review. So far libraries are open but I suspect that will change. 4y
mrsmarch This book sounds AMAZING! 🐚 4y
LiteraryinLawrence Yeah, mine is closed for 2 weeks. It makes sense since everything else is closing. 4y

valeriegeary Ours closed too. 💔 4y
night_shift @TheSpineView I hope it's good! And thanks, I'll probably post a little guy here and a longer one on my blog. Good luck on your library 😔 4y
night_shift @mrsmarch I agree!! @LiteraryinLititz it does make sense but still sucks. @valeriegeary I'm sorry for your loss 😔 4y
ReadingSusan My library is closed to the public for two weeks as of yesterday. From the perspective of a librarian it was extremely stressful to have people coming in coughing, and bringing their kids in because school had closed. I had massive anxiety all last week. I would check to see if your library has any digital options to help you get through the closures. 4y
Tamra What cover art! 4y
night_shift @ReadingSusan no, I totally get that! It just sucks as a reader. I'm also worried for all you librarians and $. Hopefully no issue there 😔 yeah, they have ebooks and audiobooks so I'll be ok.. it's just certain events and people I won't get to see for a while. 4y
night_shift @Tamra I know! Lovely! 4y
ReadingSusan @UnidragonFrag I totally get it! We will still be working every day so we will still get paid and if we end up having to shut the government down we will get to go home but will still get paid. I am really lucky that our city manager really cares about his employees. 4y
Crazeedi I haven't been to my library for a couple weeks, but I have plenty of kindle and physical books to get me through!! 4y
night_shift @ReadingSusan that's great! I mean, hopefully it doesn't come to that but.. more time for reading? Idk. I can't even imagine what I'd do realistically. The thought of my job sending us home makes me start to panic. We have no easy way to work remotely and idk if they wouldn't just lay us off. We don't have much public contact, but still. 4y
night_shift @Crazeedi good! I went last week to get some books for the baby. But I guess I'll just be reading my actual books lol 4y
Crazeedi @UnidragonFrag so we might actually get some of our own books read, right? 4y
night_shift @Crazeedi I mean, I think that's what that means! 4y
night_shift Update to anyone curious. They've cut our hours at work, but as of now I'm still employed so that's nice. 4y

Not gonna lie, this book cover scream THE MERMAID CHAIR by Sue Kidd Monk. So shame on the publisher for that. But i like the cover. It's soft. Its dreamy. It's romantic.

however, having read some of the authors other works, I'm not sure that is what is inside the pages.

#CoverLove #YA Edition

Out March 3

ljuliel That‘s pretty too. I read The Mermaid Chair but don‘t even remember what the cover looked like. I thought it had a chair on it ? 4y
LibrarianRyan @ljuliel It does, and a gold frame. But the style and the way the water movies. 4y
rubyslippersreads Another one I‘d read just for the cover (even if it‘s derivative of another cover). 😊 4y
LibrarianRyan @rubyslippersreads I thought so too. 4y
