Bonds of Brass
Bonds of Brass: Book One of The Bloodright Trilogy | Emily Skrutskie
11 posts | 7 read | 1 reading | 20 to read
A young pilot risks everything to save his best friend--the man he trusts most and might even love--only to learn that he's secretly the heir to a brutal galactic empire. Ettian Nassun's life was shattered when the merciless Umber Empire invaded. He's spent seven years putting himself back together under its rule, joining an Umber military academy and becoming the best pilot in his class. Even better, he's met Gal Veres--his exasperating and infuriatingly enticing roommate who's made the Academy feel like a new home. But when dozens of classmates spring an assassination plot on Gal, a devastating secret comes to light: Gal is the heir to the Umber Empire. Ettian barely manages to save his best friend and flee the compromised Academy unscathed, rattled both that Gal stands to inherit the empire that broke him and that there are still people willing to fight back against Umber rule. As they piece together a way to deliver Gal safely to his throne, Ettian finds himself torn in half by an impossible choice. Does he save the man who's won his heart and trust that Gal's goodness could transform the empire? Or does he throw his lot in with the brewing rebellion and fight to take back what's rightfully theirs?

End of Day 2 of the #20in4 readathon and I'm halfway to my goal of 20 hours @Andrew65

Today my partner spoiled me - we went to lunch and saw the Barbie movie and he let me wander around the nearby Barnes & Noble and bought me this lovely stack of books for my birthday 🥰

Joining the special end-of-the-season #20in4 readathon with this book. My goal is 20 hours, and I plan to read sci fi and fantasy audio and paper books. I don't have a set tbr so feel free to recommend titles.

Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !

Andrew65 Great to have you with us, good luck 😊 2y

Pride Month: Day Eighteen! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Chaplin decided to use these books as a pillow earlier and I think that was his way of telling me he wanted me to feature them today! 😹 I just got the third book of this #gaysinspace trilogy recently and I'm really excited to start them now that I have all three! 💕📚

Amazon is once again stalking my wishlist and has offered me a $6 credit for a number of books. It was hard to chose but I‘ve wanted this one since I saw the announcement it was coming. It‘s $11.99 and that‘s more than I like to spend on an ebook from an not-known-to-me author but $5.99 is more in my range. I‘ve acquired it and it‘s now in the hoard.

Eyelit I just got this too! I think @ThePageantHam is also reading it 🙂 4y
thestarlesscasea @Eyelit yessss I haven't started it yet but am SO EXCITED about it 🤩 4y

I liked this most when I thought of Ettian as being played by John Boyega, Gal played by Oscar Isaac, and Wen ...probably played by Margot Robbie, or Jewel Straite. It was a fanfiction-ie froth, and that‘s isn‘t a bad thing. But somethings about the world building didn‘t work for me. The number of “ordinary” characters that turn out to be secret royalty is a lot to take.

This was a book I did not know I needed! From start to finish, the story and characters - fantastic! It is a book written with complexity and care, so as not to leave out any of the important defining character moments. AND, don't forget Wen, the half-burned girl with the rainbow umbrella lending more layers to this already 7 layer dip of a story! Both Ettian and Gal are full cinnamon roll mode and the story is heart pounding to the very end.

LGBT+ sci-fi? Be still my beating heart. I loved this book. Ettian has had a mad crush on his roommate Gal. When a bunch of their classmates attempt to assassinate Gal, Ettian finds out his friend is the heir to the Umber empire, the same empire that took everything from Ettian. It‘s a thrilling ride full of adventure, daring escapes, a lot of testing and questioning of loyalty, and one of the best parts of the book, Wen. Wen is my queen.

This was alright. The romance was cute but I feel like their romance was so centre to the plot that there's no big moment in the rest of the book with the whole "heir to a space empire while people try to kidnap them" premise.

Rep: m/m romance

I love earning free books with @penguinrandomhouse rewards. I think this is my 5th or 6th reward. I like it because I can take a chance on new authors or books I have never heard of. I won‘t lie I picked this one for the cover. Worse that can happen is it sucks. It‘s out now.

Genera: LGBTQ space romp/adventure - adult

BethM THat cover! 4y
silentrequiem Oooh. That looks amazing! I have a reward sitting there and I think I found book to use it up. Thanks! 4y
RainyDayReading I tried to do the reward program, but it won‘t accept the ISBN I enter. Even though I checked and said that I could earn points on the purchase it says the ISBN isn‘t valid. Glad you can get it to work though! 4y

LibrarianRyan @RainyDayReading is that for everyone you try. It does have to be a PRH book or one of its imprints. And little kids books rarely count. I have had times the website isn‘t working right but it‘s normally back up in a few hours. 4y
RainyDayReading @LibrarianRyan Yeah it was and I double checked that they were all imprints or a PRH book. I managed to do a couple today so it might have been the website? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Good to know about the kids books. 4y
LibrarianRyan @RainyDayReading that‘s good. Still try the kids books because some do count. Mostly Mg and up but every once in a while a hard cover picture book. 4y

The pitfalls of ARCs: this book was so good, such a great read, and /it‘s/ not even out yet- much less the sequels that I have an immediate need for. Aaaaargh. Anyway, if you‘d like a scifi adventure featuring a hotshot pilot and secret royal navigating deadly political intrigue, blood-obsessed empires, and a lovely, complicated roommates-to-more relationship, then here‘s your April read.
