Holly Banks Full of Angst
Holly Banks Full of Angst | Julie Valerie

A laugh-out-loud debut novel for anyone who's tried to live the perfect life--and learned the hard way there's no such thing. Holly Banks could not have made a worse first impression on the seemingly perfect moms in her new affluent community, the Village of Primm. Turns out wearing pink piggy pajama bottoms while dropping off her kindergartener late to the first day of school wasn't her best look. Not to mention Holly's worried her husband may be having an affair, she can't get her daughter to stop sucking her thumb, her hard-won film degree is collecting dust, and to top it all off, the power-hungry PTA president clearly has it in for her... To make matters even worse, Holly's natural eye for drama lands her smack-dab in the middle of a neighborhood mystery--right as her own crazy mother shows up in Primm "to help." Through it all, Holly begins to realize her neighbors may be just as flawed as--and even wackier than--she is, leaving her to wonder: Is there such a thing as a perfect mom?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was exactly the lighthearted, easy-to-read book I needed to transition into 2021. It‘s a goofy, over-the-top romp that mocks the Pinterest-perfect lives we think we‘re supposed to have. I recently saw a meme that said “the term domestic housewife implies there‘s such thing as a feral housewife...” That perfectly describes the character of Holly Banks: feral but lovably relatable, a la Lucy Ricardo. And I‘m here for it.

⭐️⭐️/5 hard pass. Everyone was so freaking unlikeable, including the main character. Just so not my thing and really hard to get through. Surprised I didn‘t bail on it earlier.

Finally getting around to reading my first #OnceUponABookClub book. It‘s not highly rated, but it should be a good #PandemicDistraction and break from working at home today. #AndThereArePresents

Hooked_on_books I‘ll be interested to see what you think. I bailed after about 100 pages. 4y
dgingo @Hooked_on_books I‘ll let you know! My expectations are low. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 4y

It‘s probably more of a pick than a so so, because although I struggled with it, I did end up liking it. I struggled with Holly‘s need to fit in to be a perfect Primm Mom because I found Primm to be a bit Stepford like. Also, I was that slacker Mom who was not cut out for PTA and volunteering for everything. But I did like Holly‘s character overall and yes, it was a bit over the top but I‘ll read the next installment. 👇

CocoReads Also, the cover matched my protein shake. 🤣🤣🤣 4y

Tonight‘s #bathnbook while I wait for daughter to get home from Indy. Because I know I won‘t sleep til she‘s home. For the record, she‘s almost 25 and I didn‘t worry about her the whole time she was away at school or both her summers in Colorado. But since she‘s here. I can‘t help myself. #MomMode

Well, I managed 1/3 of this and just can‘t read anymore. The story is ridiculous, the characters one-note and hyperbolic and everything in the town is silly in a bad way. I highly recommend not reading this book.

Not a typical choice for me, but this was a Once Upon a Bookclub book, so I‘m going to give it a try. Plus, the 0% Litsy pick rate for it is super reassuring! 😂 Wish me luck. 🤞🏼

Another entry into my what to read next dilemma. Oldest just came over and brought me December‘s book box book so now I really don‘t know what to do. Also, I‘m a meal prep failure. I did manage to make some taco meat, and 3 different flavors of shredded chicken but I still have ingredients for 5 casseroles to make. I suspect tomorrow morning I‘ll be madly trying to finish up. 😬

A silly #debut novel, firmly in the #chicklit category. Holly Banks and her family have relocated to the village of Primm, and it's time for daughter Ella to start Kindergarten. Holly is annoying, her husband is a nervous wreck, her mother is an irresponsible addict, and the PTA president is just downright unbelievably over-the-top and mean. I'd only recommend to those who love this genre. #notforme #millenialauthor (maybe) #Booked2020

Cinfhen Sorry it didn‘t work for you!! But at least you checked off the prompt 😉 4y
cherinium @Cinfhen Well, as the saying goes, all books are not for all people. This book was a selection from #onceuponabookclub. I love the concept of the box, and have adored several of the enclosed gifts; but the book selections have mostly been books I would never read of my own accord. With that said, some of them were great, and I'm glad I had them put into my hands. 4y
Cinfhen That‘s the downside to a subscription service that chooses the books but at least you‘re enjoying the experience and extra swag!!! 4y

Ready to start reading my latest selection from #onceuponabookclub. It will also be my last for a while, as I need to curb my spending for a while. Does anyone know if Julie Valerie is a #millenialauthor ? I can't find anything about her age on the web. I'd like to use this for #Booked2020 if possible. @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage

Cinfhen I‘m finding it really difficult to find the ages of most authors too!! 4y
cherinium @Cinfhen Glad I'm not the only one. This author seems to be in the right stage of life based on her bio info that is available, but who knows? 4y
Cinfhen Good enough!! Just read it and mark it 🤫🤭 4y

I struggled with this one. I couldnt find any characters I really loved, the story had different things going on but none of them really ever wrapped up and it was very slow to get into.
