One of my favorite things about this book is the relationship between Lulu and her grandmother.(Gram)
These four books are on my TBR. What are some of your favorite books that have grandkids/ grandparents storyline?

Peddler410 Clean Getaway was fantastic! My only regret was not reading it with my daughter. 4y
kspenmoll I need to think about that. I feel like I must know if some but...I am a special education teacher inna HS so I have students that read at so many levels & I am always on a lookout for books. Thanks!!! 4y

Have you ever read a book with a character that has HSAM before? I've read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. I liked The Memory Keeper better.

Peddler410 Thank you for selecting The Memory Keeper — it wasn‘t on my radar & would have been missed — and hosting . Is the 15 Lives a middle grade or YA book? Or is it Adult? I‘ve heard of it but haven‘t read it. Haven‘t read any of these titles, thanks for sharing them. (edited) 4y
sblbooks @Peddler410 you're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. 15 lives is an adult novel. I gave it 3 stars. 4y
kspenmoll I am echoing @Peddler410 . Loved this book! An recommending it to our MS teachers. I never knew about HSAM. I enjoy learning new info when reading. Thanks so much!!!! 4y
sblbooks @kspenmoll you're welcome! thanks for joining in the discussion. I hope your students like it. 4y

Peddler410 My daughter and I were both asking questions at the end of the book about what happened to Lulu‘s sister. We wanted more there. My daughter also wanted a little more about Tatiana‘s backstory. 4y
sblbooks Good idea, maybe there will be a prequel one day. 4y

Peddler410 We were both happy with the end, sad but glad things worked out the way they did. 4y
kspenmoll I thought the ending was perfect- mysteries solved, sad that her Gram was going to slowly lose her memories. But very real. 4y
sblbooks @kspenmoll @Peddler410 I agree with both of you. I think it's important to keep it real. 4y

Peddler410 My daughter and I both liked the mystery. She quickly suggested Yakov was Jacob; I figured out the truth about gramma pretty early. 4y
sblbooks I enjoyed the mystery, definitely a nice change. It's it's not common in middle grade novels. 4y
kspenmoll I enjoyed the mystery- I am a mystery buff anyway. I did figure out about Yakov. Although I admit, the spy theory had me a believer for a time! @Peddler410 @sblbooks 4y

Peddler410 I liked that their relationship wasn‘t perfect. 4y
sblbooks @Peddler410 me too! I really like how the author focused on relationships and friendships in this book. 4y
kspenmoll Agree with her both. Her friendship with Olivia was real- anxious moments, worry about losing her, etc. l love how the author portrayed friendships at that age so authenticity. @Peddler410 @sblbooks 4y

Peddler410 Mom‘s distance has to be so hard. Having her memories keeps Lulu from hating her mom because she knows deep down that early mom is still in there somewhere. 4y
sblbooks @Peddler410 This part was so sad. At least by the end of the book, the mom was ready to try and do better. It's Lulu did not have HSAM I don't think she would be as understanding, because she would not have the good memories. 4y
kspenmoll Without her HSAM her relationship with her mom would be so different- broken I think. So her HSAM is a gift @Peddler410 @sblbooks 4y

Peddler410 I‘m not going to say it was right, but rather Lulu made a wrong decision for a good reason. 4y
sblbooks @Peddler410 Agreed, Lulu was desperate to help her Gram. At the time she felt like this was all she could do 4y

Peddler410 Gram is accepting of Lulu‘s unique memory and offers a safe space for Lulu to talk about it. 4y
sblbooks @Peddler410 Yes! I also feel that it's because Lulu's parents don't spend much time with her. Lulu's father is a workaholic, and her mother is dealing with depression since the death of Lulu's sister. 4y

Daisey Thanks for the tag, but I didn‘t manage to track down and read this one. 4y
JaclynW My library doesn't have this book so I wasn't able to read it. Sorry! I'm hoping that eventually they will so I can read it. 4y
sblbooks @JaclynW @Daisey I'm sorry you weren't able to participate. Several people said they had trouble locating it. That's too bad, because it was a really good book. Hopefully your library will carry it soon. 4y

JaclynW @sblbooks I plan on checking in with my library until they have it. I'd love to read it. Was there a #mgbuddyread book for September? 4y
sblbooks @JaclynW I don't think there is. I guess we should start up another rotation at some point. I think I was the last one for this round. 4y
JaclynW @sblbooks I've loved everyone's suggestions in this group. Hopefully it can continue. 4y

Just loved this book.Has all the right ingredients for MS readers.Friendship, family, mystery, and a narrator, Lulu, with HSAM or Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory, a condition I had never hear of. She is compassionate, spunky, protective 12 yr old going on 13. Her deep love for her grandmother who is suffering memory loss causes her to seek an antidote.

sblbooks I'm so glad you were able to finish. I loved this one. 4y
kspenmoll Finished The Templar Legacy as well this weekend. Quite a different book than the tagged book! Complex thriller, espionage, involving the history of past and present of the Knights Templar (fascinating), search for ancient hidden treasure, darkness v light; evil v good- but not so simple- shades of gray. #blameitonLitsy enjoyed the wild ride, kept me guessing. 4y
Sharpeipup I‘m in love with your porch & dream on reading on it! 4y

LibrarianRyan I‘m a little behind. Been a bit crazy. Is there a list of books for the rest of the year yet. @sblbooks (edited) 4y
sblbooks @LibrarianRyan no I haven't seen or heard anything about the rest of the year. It seems like participation in the discussions have gone way down.😕 4y
LibrarianRyan @sblbooks it was a hard summer. I won‘t lie, I didn‘t participate. I had the intentions. It started off with not being able to get the books, and the. When I finally got them I didn‘t have time to read. @Lmstraubie do we want to try for fall. Maybe skip September and start again in October. I‘m willing to host again. Maybe something fun and atmospheric for the season. 4y
kspenmoll @sblbooks Apologies; I missed discussion- prepping for first day of school with students & forgot. Loved the book. 4y

Enjoying this book. Love how each chapter starts with a short blurb about various parts of the brain, etc. I may not finish by tomorrow though. Still I hope to join in on the discussion.

Lulu Carter is different from other girls her age she has a rare condition called HSAM which means she remembers most all the details of her life, but it does not bring her popularity in school and her parents are off in their own world so she doesn‘t get much recognition from them...
