I have never read anything by this author before but I really enjoyed it! I also don‘t read very much historical fiction. This was a selection in the Fresh Fiction Box Not to Miss several months ago and I‘m really glad I finally got around to reading it. This novel really displays the struggles that wagon trains faced in the 1800‘s. I would definitely consider reading more books by this author! #ffboxnottomiss

The year is 1844, two years before The Donner Party the Stevens-Murphy company left Missouri to become the first wagons to come into California through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, they were mostly Irish Catholics and were going to California in search of religious freedom and educated. They had a safe journey until October when they faced a heavy snowstorm and had to face difficult decisions.

“It was what women did. Waited for the right husband. Waited to begin a family. Waited for a life to begin.”

Boy if that doesn‘t sum up why it‘s so great to live in the time we live in.

I love learning a bit about history thru historical fiction novels. I've added this to my TBR stack.
