I realise this was written for teens, so I'm not in the target audience, but it was boring. The characters were 2D stereotypes, the writing was bad, and the moral of the story was spelled out and spoon fed to the reader, repeatedly. The artwork was alright though, and at least the protagonist learned to stop fridging herself. (Yes. She actually, literally, put herself in the fridge. New take on the #WomanInTheFridge trope.)

Got a bit carried away at my new library when I discovered the graphic novel section! I'm on a bit of a graphic novel binge at the moment, I just get through them so fast! Any great recommendations would be very much appreciated 😊😊😊

brendanmleonard Fables is fun but goes to hell really quick around maybe trade 5? I love the first few volumes though. 8y
brendanmleonard If you like crime: Scalped. If you like scifi: Planetary. 8y
brendanmleonard And Y the Last Man and Lumberjanes obviously. Sorry, I'm on a comics kick too! 8y

TheLondonBookworm @brendanmleonard haha keep em coming!! I loved the first volume of fables will probably pick up the second tomorrow 😂 Lumberjanes is definitely on the list! The others I haven't tried yet but are next on my graphic novel TBR (I needed a separate list haha) 8y
Zelma Fables rocks! I agree with @brendanmleonard that is starts to lose a little something as you get further in. I despised a few of the issues but Cubs in Toyland (vol 19 I think) is one of my favorites. 8y
readinginthedark I picked up Paper Girls today, too! And I've been playing Wolf Among Us on my computer, so I'm hoping to start Fables soon! 8y
Eyelit I second @brendanmleonard on Planetary - loved that one. Will also recommend Saga, Unwritten, Sweet Tooth, and Mind Mgmt. I'm also big fan of Fables despite its ups and downs. 😄 8y
LA_Mead "Seconds" was a neat one. Also, "Through the Woods" if you like spooky ones. I'm going through a bit of a graphic novel binge myself lately. 8y
amandaz If you haven't read Rat Queens yet, please do. It's my favorite comic series I've read this year. 8y
Erynecki The Maus books and Metamaus are so powerful. Another one of my favorites: 8y
lisakoby Kill Shakespeare is great, one of my favourites. 8y
TheLondonBookworm @Zelma I loved the first volume so I think I will persevere 😊😊 8y
TheLondonBookworm @readinginthedark I'm hearing mixed things about Fables, but it definitely starts well so I'd go for it! :) 8y
TheLondonBookworm @Eyelit They look great! Thanks for the recs, I'm adding them to my library reservations lost as we speak 😂 8y
TheLondonBookworm @LA_Mead Love a bit of a spook fest! They're so easy to read it's quite a nice break when your slogging through something a bit long and heavy but don't want to start another book. *cough* war and peach *cough* 8y
TheLondonBookworm @amandaz Going to pick it up now 😆 8y
TheLondonBookworm @Erynecki This looks interesting and a bit different from the fantasy types I usually go for- thanks! 8y
TheLondonBookworm @Lisa4 Shakespeare is in the title? I'm so there 👍👍👍 8y

It was all right! Art was good, but the story was okay. A little clichéd. And I never got the fridge thing—I think that element of Evie's character could have been teased more.

Pickpick

Bullying, apps, safe spaces, and grief. There's a lot going on here and a lot that poor Evie has to handle but watching her handle it, and understand that she can, was a blast.

Username Evie~Joe Sugg isn't one of my favourites. I struggled to read it all as I disliked it so much. I have realised that I don't get on with graphic novels. I'll stick to ordinary novels I think. Love Joe just not his book. ~Jade ❤️
