England, 1718. Brigitte

Pickpick

This one was one of those rare finds where the cover and the description did little to really spark my interest. For that reason it lived in my house for almost three years before I finally read it. And what a read! I only recently discovered my love for historical fiction, and with this one the love deepened. At first very romantic, downright petrifying at the end and I wouldn't recommend reading it before bed if you're prone to nightmares.

I have read the bock in German. It was a nice read, how ever I found that the story telling is a bot confusing / leaving the reader as much in the dark about the real happenings as the protagonist. Just a thing of personal taste though I guess.

It was okay. A bit dragging at first and plot is also disturbing. I read this while I was pregnant and I think it was a bad idea. I thought it was about the great fire of London but it was mentioned only in the first part.

#TBRtemptation post 2! A #BOTM pick. 1666 London, a heavily pregnant woman flees the Great Fire. Her baby's born with a disfiguring red birthmark. 1718, 16-year-old Eliza arrives as an apothecary's maid, a position to shield her unborn child's father from scandal. Why's the apothecary so eager to have her when he already has a maid? Why can she never look at his veiled face? From their bookseller, she learns the secrets.#blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
