Odd Hours
Odd Hours: An Odd Thomas Novel | Dean Koontz
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Dean Koontz's The City. Only a handful of fictional characters are recognized by first name alone. Dean Koontzs Odd Thomas is one such literary hero, who has come alive in readers imaginations as he explores the greatest mysteries of this world and the next with his inimitable wit, heart, and quiet gallantry. Now Koontz follows Odd as he is drawn onward, to a destiny he cannot imagine. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal town where nothing is as it seems.

“The answer to the mystery of existence is the love you shared sometimes so imperfectly, and when the loss wakes you to the deeper beauty of it, to the sanctity of it, you can't get off your knees for a long time, you're driven to your knees not by the weight of the loss but by gratitude for what preceded the loss...

TK-421 ... And the ache is always there, but one day not the emptiness, because to nurture the emptiness, to take solace in it, is to disrespect the gift of life.” #mysterious #empty #QuotsyOct21 2y

I'm so annoyed with myself for abandoning this series for so long as I was enjoying it and its been tough to get back into the swing of things.

I‘m honestly so sick of listening about Stormy. We get it, she died. We get it, she was your first love. Their whole relationship was so creepy and obsessive and weird that it makes no sense. Also, there really needs to be more sticker options and one of them needs to be a “meh” sticker.

Booknerd_76 Meh is how I felt about Brother Odd....sigh here I go again.. I really like Odd though... 6y

Need a little break from high fantasy for a bit and to catch my breath from the amazing ride that was #CodexAlera and my Tavi and my Max and all my other children.

It's a rainy day here in the Pacific Northwest, I have nowhere else to be, & it's #worldbookday ❤️. So I'll be spending some time with all these beauties.
What are you reading today?

JanuarieTimewalker13 We're having beautiful weather here in Jersey so I've been out-but apparently the rain is coming. Tonight's read is Geekerella😀your stack looks great!! I want to read Lab Girl! (edited) 7y
Sweettartlaura @JanuarieTimewalker13 Lab Girl is definitely worth a read 👍🏻 - get to it when you can! 7y
Cupofjo I love Odd! 7y

Sweettartlaura 2 more Odd books to go, then I'm done with him, @Cupofjo - I really like him, too, but Koontz can wear on me quickly😕 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Ok, thanks!! 7y
Cupofjo @Sweettartlaura really? Why so? I'd love to hear your opinion! He's prob one of my favorites! ...He does have his own style tho!! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Cupofjo I either love Koontz or I can barely stand him - for every book of his I read. I can't quite put my finger on tips the scale for me. Like this series. I really love Odd, & I appreciate a lot of the techniques he uses for Odd to connect with the world. But when EVERY book has him meeting up with enigmatic people who won't answer a question straight, it wears thin. 7y
Sweettartlaura And it bothers me that Odd shows no growth. I know he's still mourning Stormy, and that so far, it's not that far in the past. But still... He hasn't seemed to have changed since he lost her, for better or worse. 7y
Sweettartlaura I'll finish this series up. And I do like them enough to do so. But yeah...too much Koontz at one time is not for me🙂 7y

Not the best of the Odds. Koontz tried too hard to be funny. But I love them both and will no doubt be reading the rest of the series. I believe the passage above is Koontz being Koontz. The man certainly has a way with words...

Time for comfort - coffee and an old favorite. So far I like this one better than Odd #3. None better than the first so far. Koontz is hit and miss, but Odd Thomas is one of my favorite characters by any author.

Booknerd_76 I'm feeling the same way.. the first book is by far the best in this series.. the last 2 not so much.. just starting this one hope I don't regret it... 6y

Overall another meh. I think that Odd's story should have been wrapped up by this point. I feel Koontz is dragging it out just to sell more books as this one lacks the wit and joy I craved from Odd's narrative. It's not a complete bust, but I feel that the continual denial of resolution is losing me
