Leaving Everything Most Loved
Leaving Everything Most Loved: A Maisie Dobbs Novel | Jacqueline Winspear
11 posts | 36 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
In Leaving Everything Most Loved by New York Times bestselling author Jacqueline Winspear, Maisie Dobbs investigates the murder of Indian immigrants in London. The year is 1933. Maisie Dobbs is contacted by an Indian gentleman who has come to England in the hopes of finding out who killed his sister two months ago. Scotland Yard failed to make any arrest in the case, and there is reason to believe they failed to conduct a thorough investigation. The case becomes even more challenging when another Indian woman is murdered just hours before a scheduled interview. Meanwhile, unfinished business from a previous case becomes a distraction, as does a new development in Maisie's personal life. Bringing a crucial chapter in the life and times of Maisie Dobbs to a close, Leaving Everything Most Loved marks a pivotal moment in this outstanding mystery series.

Continuing my adventures in Jacqueline Winspear‘s Maisie Dobbs series, I‘m finding each book even better than the one before. A young Indian woman is killed near the docks, though much loved by all. As Maisie searches the truth, she discovers dabbling in another culture stirs up her travel bug.

I really liked this installment of the Maisie Dobbs series, which sees big changes in Maisie‘s life. There‘s an interesting mystery about the murders of two Indian women, but the focus here is on Maisie‘s personal life. I am interested to see what‘s up next for her.

rretzler Big fan of this series! 5y
KathyWheeler @rretzler I was meh about it for the first two books but got really pulled in with book 3. Now, I love the series. (edited) 5y
rretzler Actually, I agree with you. There was a strange thing going on with Maisie in the first couple of books - kind of an ESP thing that gave the books a funny vibe. Once Winspear got away from that, the books really started to become more enjoyable. 5y

This installment in the Maisie Dobbs series is so interesting! It addresses the Indian immigrant experience in London and British colonialism in India. Mahatma Gandhi gets a mention too! Hitler‘s actions in Germany are raising red flags among Britain‘s leading minds. Some big changes happen in Maisie‘s life as the book draws to a close. #audiobook

Oh Maisie how I‘ve missed you and now I‘ll worry about you until the next book. Maisie must solve the murder of a beautiful Indian woman and her friend. There are a lot of suspects and Maisie chips away at this who dunnit in typical Dobbs style. I can‘t say much about the end without spoiling it but this is a pivotal book in the series and my anxiety is high starting the next. 😟

CoverToCoverGirl Getting ready to start book four sometime today or tomorrow 😎 6y
Andrew65 Love this series. This is where I am up to in the series. 6y
Booknerd2 @Andrew65 I love it as well. I‘m trying to pace myself in reading it so I don‘t get to the end and then have to wait soooo long for the next. 🤨 6y
Andrew65 @Booknerd2 I do that too! 6y

Another wonderful book in the Maisie Dobbs Series, quite an intricate plot that took some working out for Maisie, but nobody evades detection with her. Good book looking at Maisie‘s personal life. Quite sad as this felt like the ending of an era for Maisie and her cronies. I would suggest it was the last book in the series but know more have been written since. Will be interesting to see how Maisie‘s story will be taken forward.

Started book 10 of the Maisie Dobbs Series as my commute book this week. Love Maisie Dobbs Series, and as usual so much going on for Maisie personally and professionally. Part way in this one and already can see and feel the inherent institutional racism of the time! This particular book is set in 1933, at the time of Hitler‘s rise to power in Germany. Also as always great cover art!

Suet624 Love that cover. 6y

Andrew65 @Lmstraubie Have you ever read the Kate Shackleton Series by Frances Brody. I haven‘t read them yet but my wife said she has enjoyed them and are similar to Maisie Dobbs.Kate is a widow (possibly former nurse) who takes up a job as a private detective in the years after World War I. They are set in the North if England, in fact not too far from where we live. This is the first book in the series 6y

An interesting look at prejudice in the '30's and how unfortunately not enough has changed. Maisie continues to be one of my favorite characters.

If I didn‘t know better I would almost think this book was a close to the series! Just how nicely things come together and then when Maisie reminisces about all of her past cases. Absolutely love this series! So happy it doesn‘t end here! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

8 hours in the car with Maisie Dobbs makes the drive go much faster. Still had an hour left to go when I got home so crocheted a bit. I love the warmth and depth of Maisie Dobbs. I always learn something when I listen to these wonderful books.

Ah, my old stand by, Massie Dobbs! Here is what I love about this series more than most others- Jacqueline Winspear has allowed Massie to grow and mature through the series so while it is about solving mysteries, it is also about a very smart, class conscious and independent woman struggling to be true to herself pre-WW2 in London. It's a smart series and always very fulfilling.
