Who says opposites don't attract? It's been several years since Carly Vega's parents were deported. Carly lives with her older brother, studies hard, and works the graveyard shift at a convenience store to earn enough to bring her parents back from Mexico. Arden Moss used to be the star quarterback at school. He used to date popular blondes and have fun pranking with his older sister. But now all that's changed, and Arden needs a new accomplice. Especially one his father, the town sheriff, will disapprove. All Carly wants, at first, is to stay under the radar and do what her family expects. All Arden wants is to not do what his family expects. When their paths cross, they each realize they've been living according to the wishes of others. Carly and Arden's journey toward their true hearts - and one another-- is funny, romantic, and sometimes harsh. Just like real life.

I really enjoyed this book about a girl fighting to bring her family to the US from Mexico and the trials she faces in her life. She finds love and corruption in the same place and has to make a lot of hard choices. This is a very timely and great YA book that touched on so many topics. I thought this was very important and interesting.

I started this book thinking it would be a light and fluffy YA romance read, but it turned out to be way more serious than I thought. The main character is dealing with the fallout from her parents being deported and sent back to Mexico. She and her older brother are left alone in the US, working themselves to the bone in order to bring their parents back. Overall, a pretty decent read - just don‘t go in expecting fluff!

“But are there really good people? Good people, through and through? Or are we all just varying versions of bad people, some trying harder to be good?”

Hey Kool Nerds!
What's some of your favorite Diverse Reads?

This was such a great mix of first love and suspense. Having Carly, an American-Mexican lead character was so great, and I feel that Hispanics who read the book will really understand the degree of importance that she placed on family.

I hated this book. I don't know if was because I listened to the audio, disliked the cast or what but it was awful. I really wanted to like this because the author is super nice but the premise sucked, the characters were so cliche. Don't even get me started on the dialogue. But with all that said, it fits today's prompt: #drive #anditsaugust

This book definitely brought happiness to my soul. It opened my eyes and gave me a new perspective on immigration within the Mexican community. This was a world I never knew existed and I was thirsty for more. I read this book while on my spring break trip with my mom to Miami, Florida, and the setting of this book takes place in, FLORIDA. So I felt just a little bit more connected to the story

This is a cute fast paced read that takes a story we've read a dozen times before and turns it into a life lesson on balance, family and finding love.

blondie Ooohh. I've had my eye on this one for awhile now! 7y

Mehso-so

Joyride is diverse and full of colorful characters, but it lacks the vivid writing to bring its story to life.
