Bailedbailed

I read the 1st novel in this omnibus collection of 3 novels and 7 short stories , and 3 of the short stories. 30 pages into the 2nd novel I realised I just couldn't take any more of the author's style. It takes minimalist worldbuilding to an extreme with lots of allusions that are left unexplained and is much more interested in creating a series of emotional moods rather than telling a story. I might come back to it one day, but I doubt it.

Ruthiella I‘ve been long curious about this collection. 4y
batsy @Ruthiella Me too! I follow the author on twitter and he has an interesting mind. 4y

Ruthiella Clearly you are on vacation! How are you doing without your Starbucks fix? 😀 4y
rwmg @Ruthiella Today is a public holiday so I went down to my apartment building's pool. I often make time for that if I'm working from home as well. I get starbucks when I'm working from the office and on supermarket runs. 4y

Pickpick

“Harrison‘s Viriconium sequence is the jewel in the crown of 20th-century fantasy, a work that proves irrefutably that fantastic literature can be Art with a capital A, holding its own alongside the very finest writing of our time, or any other.” - Elizabeth Hand

I have been drowning in the surrealist tides of Harrison‘s writings in these 3 novels and 7 short stories of Viriconium, the city at the smoky candle end of time, and they will haunt me.

#friyayintro

1. Karen Gillan
2. Purple
3. 20 more pages to go on my Viriconium omnibus!
4. Ender Wiggin (but like older Speaker for the Dead-era Ender), Samwise Gamgee, Ford Prefect (‘cause that frood really knows where his towel is), and John Carter of Mars (he would know all the good places to eat)
5. Could I find a Litten who doesn‘t?

Leniverse I considered Ford, but then decided that Marvin would be more useful. Maybe. 😂 6y
Dragon Amy Pond 💜💙💚 6y

China Miéville proves that blurb-writing is one of his many many talents. Just look at that hype for the author of my #currentread

And so far I have to say that it is absolutely merited.

Maybe it‘s the fact that I‘ve lived in a tiny rural tobacco town all of my life, but I love books about cities, especially weird cities. This book is scratching that itch.

It‘s an omnibus collecting three short novels and a book of short stories about Viriconium, the Pastel City, and so far the writing is AMAZING.

I‘ve read a mega-weird science fiction novel by this author (Light) but I may end up loving this more. #CurrentRead #Riotgrams
