8 posts | 11 read | 6 to read
Sergeant Hamish Macbeth is alarmed to receive a report from a woman in the small village of Cronish in the Scottish Highlands. She has been brutally attacked and the criminal is on the loose. But upon further investigation, Hamish discovers that she was lying about the crime. So when the same woman calls him back about an intruder, he simply marvels at her compulsion to lie. This time, though, she is telling the truth. Her body is found in her home and Hamish must sort through all of her lies to solve the crime. Praise for Death of a Valentine: 'A fun new read.' Woman's World 'An inventive, constantly surprising plot...explosive and engaging.' Booklist Praise for Death of a Witch: 'Full of the author's trademark zest and wit...Beaton fans will be delighted.' Publishers Weekly 'A sound mystery featuring a generous portion of Hamish's complicated relationships and the usual delightful Highland descriptions.' Kirkus

Sad to see Dick leave Hamish's side in this one.. 💔
This was not as enjoyable as the last few Hamish Macbeths i have read but still a brilliant book to add to the collection!

Another light read from the library. Don't usually read her Hamish series. Sort of liked this one. Especially liked her comment within the story , about not treating foxes as pets. Encouraging people NOT to feed them. I'll have a break now from her books.

3rd book read during #24in48 readathon and the 30th in the series. I find myself saying "Poor Hamish." As always, a wonderful trip to the Scotland. Quirky characters...bet you can't guess what type of character dies in this book!

Tonight is a Hamish Macbeth night. It's been 5/6 months I think I can risk it!*
* I can't read them too close together or the formula gets to me.

Jeg I think that's what happens to me now I see you mention it. I can't read too many at once. 7y
Verity @Jeg I'm the same with all of hers - do too many and I start to see the formula too much (and the lack of character evolution) and it annoys me! 7y

If you like Agatha Christie mysteries then let me introduce you to your new favourite series. There are 30+ of them so far, each with the "Death of a ..." structure to their title, so if you enjoy them you are in for a real treat. Hamish MacBeth (silly name, I know) is a police offer in Scotland ...

Mamashep Love Hamish! 8y
