4 ⭐ This was a fun book about a girl who tries to bring some color to her drab world, when a muralist shows her how to go big. They get everyone involved and brighten up their community. This is based on real events in San Deigo, California and the creation of the Urban Art Trail. This book is not a biography, or a non-fiction, but a gateway to learning more about art and how it can change a city.

This book is all about how art can be such a beautiful thing. A great lesson for this book would be to have students create a beautiful art piece that is special to them and allow them to showcase this in the hallway.

A cute and inspiring story about how little changes can turn in to major ones to create beautiful things around us. I really liked the message of this book and the story line. Perfect for inspiring all age readers to follow their dreams and take the leap of faith into something they are passionate about.

This Tomás Rivera Award winning book would be a perfect add to any elementary classroom library! This book is about a young girl who helps inspire a grey & colorless neighborhood with her passion for art through bright cheerful paintings. This RF book is inspired by the story of the Urban Art Trail in San Diego. In this story we learn how art can inspire, transform & bring together a community of people.

Vanvlieta https://www.readingrockets.org/article/some-benefits-reading-aloud This RA would be best comprehended using the UDL principles 3.2 (highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships) ; as well as strategy 3.3 (Guide information processing and visualization). These strategies should be used along with EL strategies 6 (continually monitor students‘ comprehension), and 11 (Place language in meaningful context). #UCFLAE3414SP21 (edited) 3y

Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, illustrated by Rafael López is a B, International Latino Book Award winner. It would make an excellent addition to any classroom library. The theme of this book is to find something beautiful in everything you see. Mira finds the beautiful in her neighborhood and paints beautiful murals with the help of her neighbors. This book would be best used as a RA.

Gabylaurel10 After reading a good activity would to create your own classroom mural! https://static1.squarespace.com/static/56663dee841abafca76d6f46/t/5a20e2eb419202... The UDL Principles 3.1 and 3.2 of using prior knowledge and high lighting big ideas along with EL 4 and 24 of linking prior knowledge and incorporating culture can be met by this picture book! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

“Maybe Something Beautiful” by F Isabel Compoy and Theres Howell, illustrated by Rafael Lopez, is a heartwarming NF picture book that would be perfect for S or IR. The story is about a little girl named, Mira, who one day decided to post a picture of sun she drew in a dark alley. Little did she know that even the smallest of artists, like herself, could inspire transformation.

supan.katherine https://inthelemontree.com/book-club-maybe-something-beautiful-f-isabel-campoy-t... This website includes a clip for a visual summary of the book as well as a great activity. And to ensure that students understood the reading, the website also includes discussion questions that teachers could go over with their students after the reading. 6y
supan.katherine UDL 9.1: Promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation. ESOL 17: Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, relic, boy language and facial expressions. #ucflae3414f17 6y
DrSpalding I just watched the visual summary video. What a powerful story. There are many movements around the country much like this that encourage art/murals to decorate what could be considered dismal landscapes. 6y

"Mira dipped it in the loudest color she saw. Yow-wee! The wall lit up like sunshine."

Lovely book about how art can add joy, light, and life and bring a community together.

My 5 yo: "Can we do that?" And then when I had to return it to the library today she tried to convince me to make a bootleg copy to return instead because she wanted to keep it. ?

Beautiful. I loved everything about this. It is inspirational and practical and amazingly illustrated. It captivated my kids with bright colors and an interesting story, and I was taken in myself. I loved the note at the back about the real story it was based on, and only wish they had included even more photographs.
