Moving on Up
Moving on Up: All You Need to Ease the Transition from Primary to Secondary School | Molly Potter
4 posts
The whole area of transition is under resourced and Molly's book willbe well received by both Year 6 as they prepare pupils for secondaryschool and also by Year 7 teachers, who could use it in the first fewweeks when they are getting to know their new pupils. There has been much recent focus on the impact of transition and theneed to support children through it. This book includes easy-to-use andmeaningful activities that aim to support children through thispotentially stressful time. The activities are extremely user friendlyand would take little or no preparation on the part of the teacher. This new book from Molly Potter addresses the perennial problem of howto prepare Year 6 children for secondary school. It covers issues thatwould be explored in PSHE, year group assemblies and literacy lessons. It also includes leaflets for pupils and parents on issues such as peerinfluence, coping with change and what change to expect. The activitiesare a combination of fun to do, such as Getting to know your newteachers' and a quiz on How organised you are' but also delve intomore emotional issues such as How you feel about secondary school' andThe effects of peer pressure'.
