Knocking on Heaven's Door
Knocking on Heaven's Door: How Physics and Scientific Thinking Illuminate the Universe and the Modern World | Lisa Randall
7 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
Science has a battle for hearts and minds on its hands. How good it feels to have Lisa Randalls unusual blend of top flight science, clarity, and charm on our side. Richard Dawkins Dazzling ideas.Read this book today to understand the science of tomorrow. Steven Pinker The bestselling author of Warped Passages, one of Time magazines 100 Most Influential People in the World, and one of Esquires 75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century, Lisa Randall gives us an exhilarating overview of the latest ideas in physics and offers a rousing defense of the role of science in our lives. Featuring fascinating insights into our scientific future born from the authors provocative conversations with Nate Silver, David Chang, and Scott Derrickson, Knocking on Heavens Door is eminently readable, one of the most important popular science books of this or any year. It is a necessary volume for all who admire the work of Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Brian Greene, Simon Singh, and Carl Sagan; for anyone curious about the workings and aims of the Large Hadron Collider, the biggest and most expensive machine ever built by mankind; for those who firmly believe in the importance of science and rational thought; and for anyone interested in how the Universe beganand how it might ultimately end.

I've been reading this FOREVER.
This was a super interesting book, though I will admit some of the concepts were a bit above my education level. I have been reading it in bits and pieces because it was such a challenge for me. Not something I would normally read but Lisa Randall is a kickass woman and it was worth my time! A good pick if you enjoy science or want to learn more.

Suet624 Impressed you persevered. 7y
Echo @Suet624 I am actually planning on reading another one of her books in 2017. This one hopefully built enough of a foundation for me to enjoy the next one a little more!🔬🔭 7y

This is how I wind down before bed. Nonfiction, I've found, is perfect for calming me down before bed. I have enjoyed learning about the LHC and different theories in this book. Who knew physics could be relaxing? 🔬⚛️🤓

This book is taking me ages to get through. I will be the first to admit that this most of this is above my head and I do tend to read more fiction than nonfiction. I will keep going, but to keep burn out away, I do pick it up and put down when the mood strikes. 🤓🔬📖

Completely nerding out to this book. Lisa Randall has broken down physics to an understandable language. It never hurts to learn something new.

brittnaypozen Hey! I tried to tag you in my most recent post, but I think there's a space at the end of your username so the tag isn't working 8y
