Ex-Communication: A Novel | Peter Clines
5 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
The third novel in Peter Clines' bestselling Ex series. “All of us try to cheat death. I was just better prepared to do it than most folks.” In the years since the wave of living death swept the globe, St George and his fellow heroes haven’t just kept Los Angeles’ last humans alive—they’ve created a real community, a bustling town that’s spreading beyond its original walls and swelling with new refugees. But now one of the heroes, perhaps the most powerful among them, seems to be losing his mind. The implacable enemy known as Legion has found terrifying new ways of using zombies as pawns in his attacks. And outside the Mount, something ancient and monstrous is hell-bent on revenge. As Peter Clines weaves these elements together in yet another masterful, shocking climax, St. George, Stealth, Captain Freedom, and the rest of the heroes find that even in a city overrun by millions of ex-humans... …there’s more than one way to come back from the dead.

I couldn't put this one down. A steady build to a great climax. As good as Ex-Heroes and even better than Ex-Patriots. Great ensemble cast.

This book brings forward threads from the first two in a really satisfying way. Clines has an ecumenical imagination--science, magic, super powers, zombies.

Picking up where Ex-Patriots left off, Ex-Communication follows our intrepid heroes as they defend LA from Legion and face their past demons--literally.

This series focuses on a group of superheroes doing their best to protect a small enclave of humanity after the zombie apocalypse.

I just finished book 3, which was solid if unremarkable. There were some neat ideas being explored about the place of religion after the zombocalypse but they were all dropped once the Big Bad was defeated. I keep coming back for the characters, specifically Barry aka Zzzap.

EchoLogical My husband started the first book but struggled to get into it. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @EchoLogical They have been consistently okay for me, but there's just nothing to push them into "great" territory. 7y
MidnightBookGirl I read the first book (which I bought from Audible kind of by mistake bc I mixed up Ernest Cline with Peter Cline) and I liked it, but never felt the urge to pick up the 2nd although I loved the narration. 7y
