A compelling mystery, and unexpectedly very funny. An interesting look at the time period, too, so many details about the forensic investigation (how they got by without all the tech we have now!) and a feel for what Harlem was like. Really great!

Mehso-so

I wanted to like this more than I did. It is noteworthy for being the first crime novel by an African American author, but like other crime novels of the 1930s it was written in a rather ornate style and some plot elements felt convoluted. Still, I finished it without peeking at the end.

#DoubleSpin: The Naming of the Dead (Rankin)
I managed to knock my BookSpin off a pile of library books and it fell behind the bookcase…and I need other half to help move the bookcase…but of course he‘s already gone to bed 😓 Darn that early shift of his!

TheAromaofBooks Oh my, so much BookSpin drama! 😂 Hopefully you can get to your book soon!! 3y
rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks Thanks! To be honest that bookcase IS due for a clear-out and reorg, so probably a good thing in the end. There will be so much eyerolling tomorrow though 🤣😅 3y
rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks Yay, BF was able to retrieve it with the end of a broom! I didn‘t think the broom would fit in the gap between the bookcase and the wall, but it did 😊 3y
TheAromaofBooks haha I'm so glad that you got your book, especially without the pesky problem of reorganizing the whole shelf!! 😂 3y

@sprainedbrain included an article about the tagged book in her recent #blitsyswap package to me. This book sounds interesting; I'll let you all know if I find a copy.
