Haunted Ground
Haunted Ground: A Novel | Erin Hart
12 posts | 23 read | 30 to read
The dazzling, award-winning debut in a series that delivers mystery, romance, suspense, and fascinating forensic detail. When farmers cutting turf in an Irish peat bog make a grisly discoverythe perfectly preserved head of a young woman with long red hairIrish archaeologist Cormac Maguire and American pathologist Nora Gavin must use cutting-edge techniques to preserve ancient evidence. Because the bogs watery, acidic environment prevents decay, its difficult to tell how long the red-haired girl has been buriedtwo years, two centuries, or even much longer. Who is she? The extraordinary find leads to even more disturbing puzzles. The red-haired girl is not the only enigma in this remote corner of Galway. Two years earlier, Mina Osborne, the wife of a local landowner, went for a walk with her young son and vanished without a trace. Could they, too, be hidden in the bogs treacherous depths, only to be discovered centuries from now? Or did Hugh Osborne murder his family, as some villagers suspect? Bracklyn House, Osbornes stately home, holds many secrets, and Nora and Cormac's inquiries threaten to expose them all.

Day 20 - #Haunted #ScreamathonPhotoChallenge #scarathlon #teamSlaughter @Clwojick
#HauntedGround #ErinHart

A bog body is a human cadaver that has been naturally mummified in a peat bog. Bog people having been dated to between 8000 BCE and the WWII. The unifying factor of the bog bodies is that they have been found in peat and are partially preserved.

The tagged book is a interesting mystery book about bog people set in Ireland which I read.

Avanders 🤭 whoa. 4y
Crazeedi Book sounds good 4y

This is a solid two fold mystery, though it‘s long in places and the pacing at the end was off. One mystery wrapped up but you had to wade thru what I felt was unnecessary follow-up to reach the conclusion of the more interesting mystery, which was the execution of a young woman in 1654.

Ruthiella I read this a few years ago. I can only remember it involves “bog people” and that I liked it!😀 4y
Tamra @Ruthiella 😆 Yes, bog people! I was attracted to the novel because of the archeological mystery. (edited) 4y

This was the last audiobook I listened to - finished it last night and it was Good! For the #24in48 #audiobookchallenge, my favorite place to listen to audiobooks is while sitting on my front porch. Here is my typical view when I‘m there, although that beautiful Japanese Maple tree is now gone. 😢

Mehso-so

It was ok. I love history and mystery so it was fantastic to have both tangled into one with twists you wouldn‘t see coming. However, it just seemed all over the place at times and as if it could have been 3 completely different stories. It was good, just a little hard to follow at times and I found myself going back to re read quite a bit.

Thanks @Amiable!!! This was a really awesome box. I love that you included a tote from a local bookstore. Thanks @BurghBookAddict for arranging the swap. #litsyswapoween

Amiable I'm so glad you like it! This was my first swap so I didn't know what to expect. 😬 I hope you enjoy the books! I know that Isabel Allende is a favorite author but I didn't know which ones you'd already read! So I got you a couple of my favorites instead. 😀 5y

This is the first book in a 4 book series about Irish archaeologist Cormac Maguire and American pathologist Nora Gavin. A farmer while cutting turf in an Irish peat bog finds a preserved head of a young woman with long red hair. How long has she been there and who is she? These books have it all - mystery, romance, suspense and forensic detail. Secrets abound and Nora and Cormac will try to expose them all. Fascinating series!
