Pickpick

I just realized I actually rated this book an 8. Let‘s try to ignore the unintentional pun there shall we??
What can I say? As cliché as it sounds, this whole thing was a roller coaster of emotions. I could be laughing at something sassy a character says and by the next page, my heart would race out of my chest hoping one of them will be okay. The last few chapters melted my brain to mush and I even recommend this to those who don‘t like sci-fi 1

jeannasser Clover is one of the most exciting MCs I‘ve ever come across in YA. Seeing the story unravel through her eyes truly made this book special. Whether it is through her sarcastic comebacks or her most emotional inner dialogues, she will keep you entertained. My only complaints with the book are these; I was feeling iffy at the beginning. Some typical YA stereotypes were being brought up and it took a little while for the story to fully take off 2 2y
jeannasser Other issue I have is with the writing style. I don‘t expect a Nevernight/SoA style of writing in everything I read, but HOLY FISH STICKS was the writing in this book FLAT AS A WALL. Like literally telling instead of showing in EVERYTHING. These may sound like reasons for me to rate it lower than I did, but trust me. The story and characters kept me on edge and at the end, I‘m FULLY satisfied with what I read. Give this a try. Very accessible 3 2y
jeannasser I feel really really really stupid for not seeing that twist coming. It was right in front of my face. The aliens can‘t see them and they‘re immune to the alien‘s attacks? Why? OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE THEYRE NOT FREAKING HUMAN EITHER! It was soooooo obvious but at the same time I‘m glad I didn‘t figure it out. So good job to Laura for not making it too crystal clear I guess 2y
jeannasser Also I KNEW a character was gonna die considering the fact that the next book is called The First 7, however, when Adam died it still hit a nerve. I didn‘t expect it to be him and then so suddenly. Laura chose the right character to kill off and make me suffer for. Also while I love Violet‘s growth I do feel like she switched up WAY TOO FAST from having beef with Clover to almost NONE, but no big deal 2y

This book couldn‘t decide which Will Smith alien movie it wanted to be. This was too over the top for me but some may enjoy it. 8 teenagers (of course, right?!) are all that‘s left after aliens invade and they have to figure out how to fight back. 👽

TerriGreen Oh my.. the fate of the world is in the hands of teenagers? Lol that can‘t go well. 4y

A mash up of every alien invasion movie, this book reads more like a screenplay for one of said movies than the novel it wants to be. While the premise of the book is entertaining, the overall execution is flawed. I found it had a weird pacing and required an exaggerated level of suspension of disbelief which is saying a lot when you consider that the whole plot of the book is aliens invading Earth. ⭐️⭐️ #ReadTheUSA2020 #Nevada #bookspinbonanza

throwmeabook @TheAromaofBooks I read this one out of order (it‘s actually 19th on the list) since it was next on my Scribd queue. One book down, 19 to go ✔️ 4y

I read this as part of this weeks Epic Reads book challenge in which we are to read a book with a number in the title. It sort of left me with, Meh. It‘s ok, but always like to break out and read book challenges reads.

I found it a quick-paced invasion story. Clover's ways of dealing with trauma, as well as her logical & quick-witted thinking, felt real. I also enjoyed the other characters & their relationships. On the other hand, some pieces of the story didn't make sense. And I would definitely take the content warming seriously. Still, it was a quick read & I'm always glad to read more Latin American authors' voices. I'd be willing to pick up book 2.

I was not planning on getting much when I went to BN in Saturday for the HP build. But they had 50% off select books so Last 8 and Beholder fell into my bad.

I featured Skeleton Knight in #coverlove thinking it was a GN. It is technically but it‘s also a full novel. I just couldn‘t resist the cover. #bookhaul

wanderinglynn Same thing happened to me. Walked in & saw some awesome sales. 5y

Clover has always been a survivor, which is the only reason she isn't among the dead when aliens invade and destroy Earth.

When she hears a radio message, she's shocked to learn there are other survivors— all at the former Area 51. Only they aren't the ragtag group of heroes she was expecting. The group seems more interested in hiding than fighting back. But then she finds a hidden spaceship, and she doesn't know what to believe…or who to trust.
