The Writing Class
The Writing Class | Jincy Willett

Amy Gallup is gifted, perhaps too gifted for her own good. Published at only twenty-two, she peaked early and found critical but not commercial success. Now her former life is gone, along with her writing career and beloved husband. A reclusive widow, her sole companion a dour, flatulent basset hound who barely tolerates her, her daily mantra Kill Me Now, she is a loner afraid to be alone. Her only bright spot each week is the writing class that she teaches at the university extension. This semester's class is full of the usual suspects: the doctor who wants to be the next Robin Cook, the overly enthusiastic repeat student, the slacker, the unassuming student with the hidden talent, the prankster, the know-it-all.... Amy's seen them all before. But something is very different about this class---and the clues begin with a scary phone call in the middle of the night and obscene threats instead of peer evaluations on student writing assignments. Amy soon realizes that one of her students is a very sick puppy, and when a member of the class is murdered, everyone becomes a suspect. As she dissects each student's writing for clues, Amy must enlist the help of everyone in her class, including the murderer, to find the killer among them. Suspenseful, extremely witty, brilliantly written, unexpectedly hilarious, and a joy from start to finish, The Writing Class is a one-of-a-kind novel that rivals Jincy Willett's previous masterpieces.

#lite intro @tessavi
1. From the great state of Texas, living in the weird state of Florida for 2nd half of my life
2. Surprisingly, Shirley Jackson. Somehow missed her over the years
3. Over 2000 on goodreads and over 50 on the shelves at home. I have work to do!
4. On the patio with a warm breeze blowing
5. Jincy Willett (a name that auto correct has no love for) has some terrific stuff out there.

tessavi I should read Haunting of Hill House 🤔 5y

I'm taking an online writing class but the folder I've been carrying everything around in is getting pretty battered. So today I bought a binder and some page protectors and basically made myself a textbook. #becauseimgeekythatway #procrastinating

Bklover I used to love doing things like that. It always made me feel refreshed, and somehow always improved my grades too. I have ALWAYS been geeky like that- it's a good thing! 7y

Suet624 Oh I love plastic sleeves. And now you make me want to take a writing class. 7y

CocoReads @Suet624 I'm enjoying it quite a bit. We found it through our library. It counts for continuing ed credits for my sisters teaching license so I told her I'd take it with her. 7y
Suet624 That's so great! I've taken an online editing class through my library. Those are great classes! 7y

I'm loving this book. A bevy of interesting characters, a lot of snarky humor that is right up my alley, a mystery, and lots of amusing writing about writing. 👍🏼

I often use a bobby pin for a #bookmark. What do you use? #riotgram @bookriot

Reagan Mostly receipts, I used to fold corners (gasp!) but I stopped a few years ago. 7y
Lynnsoprano Paint chips or strips. Sometimes I pick them up in Lowes or Home Depot just for free bookmarks 😄 7y

Reader24601 I like using index cards. That way I can jot down quick notes when something worth remembering catches my attention. 6y
HeatherBookNerd @Reader24601 note cards are a great idea. Also, I am wondering if you‘re a Les Miz fan 😊 6y

My #novemberTBR includes finishing A Man Called Ove, Love Warrior, and Anna Karenina on @SerialReader . I loved Jincy Willett's Amy Falls Down and had no idea there was another book before that, so I'm starting that one now. #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading

I enjoyed this. A murder mystery set in a writing class, the cast was full of eccentric characters. It dragged in some places, but at times, I couldn't put it down. Chipper had mixed feelings as well! 😂 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
