Next up on my TBR list is a marriage book. My past therapist had it in her office and recommended that I read it when I was dating my now husband. Sad how it's taken me so long to finally sit down to read it from cover to cover. This will be book 3 of the first 4 books of the year, focusing on the theme of Self-improvement. Have my TBR list of 25 books for 2018... but not sure I will read everything in the order that I have set. It is the hope! 🤓

JamieArc Gottman is good stuff. My husband and I only bailed on this because there are a lot of exercises to do and we weren‘t up to it at the time. (edited) 6y

Blurb cont'd... Forbearance is the totality of the proper Christian life. It is the all-inclusive virtue of Christ. To be forbearing is to live and magnify Christ. It is the means for man to fulfill God's threefold purpose-in one's own life, one's family life, and one's church life. I never saw this before. The lack of forbearance in my life reveals just how much Christ I lack! 😂 A spat with my hubby over $$ showed how much anxiety is in me!

2 Cor 4:16-17. ...we faint not; but though our outer man is being consumed, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For the momentary lightness of the affliction worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Blown away by the truths covered in this short little book. Anxiety is the totality of human life with its source from Satan to thwart the fulfillment of God's purpose. Forbearance is its opposite...more to come...

1. Crunchy, flaming hot! Loved it in high school and never lost my love for the spicy crunch! ?
2. Tough one. I'm a slow reader that savors every word. Current read "A Life Full of Forbearance but without Anxiety" is excellent!
3. Cleaning the house, organizing, getting rid of things we don't need anymore!
4. Every language. Although I do wish I knew what went on in my Golden's head sometimes!
5. Asian Studies.

Don't let his cute furry little face fool you. This cat is up to no good! Tries to chew on my cables and charging wires... Even chewed up our very expensive garden hose without even a lick of remorse! 😼😫

JaneyWaneyB But he is cute 😊 6y

The title is actually "A Life Full of Forbearance but without Anxiety." It is kind of like the Cliff notes version of the Life-Study of Philippians. Wow, I am SUPER blessed that I chose to read this book next, given that so many other books were grabbing my interest. It is such a timely word for the Christian today. I know lots of people on here have different religious or spiritual views, but this is an absolute MUST read for God's followers.

Pickpick

Finally finished! I did enjoy every chapter, except I think I started to get skeptical about where he was taking me toward the end. I have to say that although I appreciate his understanding of God, it bothered me that he did not address the problem of evil or how we deal with the issue of morality. I guess this was on my mind bc I have lately been so disturbed by the evil powers in this world...for that, I bumped the book to 4 stars out of 5.

#2018readingresolutions #2018newyeargoals

1. Begin the day reading for 30 minutes.
2. Finish 25 books on my 2018 TBR list
3. Go to bed earlier (11pm) to wake up earlier (#1)
4. Stay accountable by regularly posting on Litsy
5. Choose my books wisely. Read what fuels my reading habit. Stop impulsive book buying on Amazon or other (unless I'm getting a great deal)

PurpleyPumpkin These are great reading goals!👍🏽 6y

"Wise beings do not want to remain a slave to the fear of pain [feelings of frustration, anger, fear, jealousy, insecurity, or embarrassment]. They permit the world to be what it is instead of being afraid of it. They wholeheartedly participate in life, but not for the purpose of using life to avoid themselves. If life does something that causes a disturbance inside of you, instead of pulling away, let it pass through you like the wind."

mcipher I think my therapist recommended this - I really should read it! 6y
Reader24601 That's wonderful! Just stay open whatever you feel or think when you read it. It can really change your life! I'm studying to become a social worker and this is going to be very useful for me not just in practice but also in my personal life as well. 6y
mcipher I finally got it - required reading for my yoga teacher training! It‘s interesting and eye-opening is far. ☺️ (edited) 6y

While eating my breakfast, one of the furkids walked through my power cord, and my laptop dropped to the hard floor from the kitchen table. Surprisingly, I was able to remain calm and not let my anger out on my pets thanks to what I have been practicing from this book. I was worried my computer would not turn on, but it did. I will use this opportunity to have it inspected and get all my files backed up in case anything happens in the future!

Every day we bear a burden...We fear that we are not good enough or that we will fail. We experience insecurity, anxiety, and self-consciousness. We fear that people will turn on us, take advantage of us, or stop loving us...as we try to succeed and express ourselves,...we carry...the fear of experiencing pain, anguish, or sorrow. Every day we are either feeling it, or we are protecting ourselves from feeling it. [This influences us to our core.]

Eventually you will want out, at any cost. You will then realize that life is actually trying to help you. Life is surrounding you with people and situations that stimulate growth...You only have to be willing to open your heart in the face of anything and everything, and permit the purification process to take place.

PurpleyPumpkin Welcome to Litsy! I hope you enjoy it here. Btw, I loved this book. You‘ve reminded me that I have his next one on my tbr. Maybe I‘ll get to it in 2018. 🤔 6y
Reader24601 Yeah I saw the blurb for that on Goodreads. I might wait a while to read that as I'm finding so many other great recs on Litsy! I love this place and seeing other posts is wetting my appetite for a lot of new reads this new year... 6y
