Court of Owls
Court of Owls | Scott Snyder
17 posts | 52 read | 9 to read
The reader will experience the story from Batman's viewpoint on pages 108-117. After a series of brutal murders rocks Gotham City, Batman begins to realize that perhaps these crimes go far deeper than appearances suggest. As the Caped Crusader begins to unravel this deadly mystery, he discovers a conspiracy going back to his youth and beyond to the origins of the city he's sworn to protect. Batman has heard tales of Gotham City's Court of Owls: that the members of this powerful cabal are the true rulers of Gotham. The Dark Knight dismissed the stories as rumors and old wives' tales. Gotham was his city. Until now. A brutal assassin is sinking his razor-sharp talons into the city's best and brightest, as well as its most dangerous and deadly. If the dark legends are true, his masters are more powerful predators than the Batman could ever imagine. This now-classic graphic novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling creative team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo is not just fantastic jumping-on point for any new reader, but one of the great Batman stories ever told. With every year that passes, this masterpiece becomes more entrenched into this medium's pantheon of the greatest stories ever told. Collects issues #1-7 of Batman.

1. Negative. Even existing for several years, I can't understand what it is or how it's mined, and it has always seemed like a giant scam.

2. Batman comics! I've been thinking lately about the Court of Owls volumes that show Batman completely out of his depth.

With the new game coming up I had to go back and reread the court of owls and all the attached comics. An absolute epic story line that turns what you know about Gotham on its head

Scott Snyder re-imagines Batman's origin in a gripping story of conflict with a secret society ruling Gotham. Snyder's Batman is human, flawed, and pushed to the edge of madness.

This volume blew my mind. I really enjoyed this storyline and the turns it took. I liked the look back at Gotham‘s history and the psychological war as much as the physical one Batman/Bruce is involved in. Wow. Just wow.

I was so tempted to get this slipcover set at the bookstore! After reading Dark Nights Metal for #cbbr I wanted to read some more Batman by Scott Snyder, and @GrilledCheeseSamurai had recommended Court of Owls. My book buying ban and long list of books to read stopped me. Also, it is $50. Someday, this will be mine.

GrilledCheeseSamurai If you enjoyed Metal you'll definitely enjoy these ones. It's a terrific run and alot easier to follow. 😂 6y

Could do this version of Batman. He had way to much going on in the way of gadgets and the writing dragged for me. #LetsGetGraphicMonthlyFeature @TricksyTails @Clwojick

TricksyTails Aww this is my favorite run on Batman. I understand completely where you‘re coming from. I admit, Snyder can be wordy sometimes. I‘m sorry you didn‘t enjoy it. Good thing there are so many different Batman series to choose from! 😊 6y
Erin7 I think I‘m going to give it another go this weekend. I didn‘t get very far. I may just need to push through a bit more. (edited) 6y

Checking out the new 52! I loved Batman so much when I was a child but as I grew up I pushed him to the back. Now, I'm completely obsessed again. Really can't wait to continue this series.

Dark and unsettling, with moments of genuine terror. This is a vision of Batman that blows anting "comic" away.

Best 1st volume I've read in a long time. Best graphic I've read this year.

So excited to finally jumping into DC comics after reading Marvel for a decade. I'm so glad my library has a great graphic novel selection.
