pickA solid pick if you need a fantastic palate cleanser 👍🏻 Ben Schott did a great job of “becoming” P.G Wodehouse, I felt as if I was reading an original P.G Wodehouse book, not a tribute written in 2018. Definitely a pick!!

so-soDisappointing... I went through a P. G. Wodehouse phase a few years ago. This novel starts off with some wit and vigor, but the plot just fizzles and I could have used more Jeeves and less Bertie. (I did read the book in the voices of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.)

panLike the impetuous searcher at the end of ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade‘, I chose poorly here. Rather a woeful start to a year‘s reading, and one that is particularly annoying because my disappointment might so easily have been predicted. pick5⭐️ Just a smashing good book. I lost count of the times I laughed out loud, guffawed, and snickered at Bertie‘s antics and predicaments. Schott has done just a magnificent job in his homage to Wodehouse. This truly is a perfect book to lift your spirits.

pickPositively ripping! A worthy homage to Plum. With pre-WWII espionage afoot the stakes of this caper are potentially higher than previous. I was worried this would upset the usual joyous farce but Schott avoided it adroitly. Full of the usual madcap disguises, blunders and ploys, Bertie-isms ("if that's the word I want") and he writes J&W to a tee. Impressive and wholly enjoyable
Not only did I use Sayers for a prompt today my mother also ordered the Folio Society collection for my Christmas present. Love books within books

This one's probably a risk but since I asked my library to but it in buying the bullet and honouring my commitment. I hope Schott gets this right!
Is it even possible to go to the library and NOT come out with more books than you went in with? These are brand new acquisitions and were already on my tbr. 🤞 for the Wodehouse homage...
pickAs a rule, my view on “continuation” novels is No. That being said - and I‘m as surprised as you are - I enjoyed this. I finished in three days and laughed out loud more than once. You‘d never mistake it for Wodehouse, but that just means you can enjoy it without feeling like you‘re aiding and abetting in an act of sacrilege. A very creditable Christmas present / the winter equivalent of a beach read.
