Proof of Collusion: How Trump Betrayed America
Proof of Collusion: How Trump Betrayed America | Seth Abramson
4 posts | 3 read | 13 to read
For the first time, the full, explosive record of the unthinkable: how a US president compromised American foreign policy in exchange for the promise of future business and covert election assistance. Looking back at this moment in history, historians will ask if Americans knew they were living through the first case of criminal conspiracy between an American presidential candidate turned commander in chief and a geopolitical enemy. The answer might be: it was hard to see the whole picture. The stories coming in from around the globe have often seemed fantastical: clandestine meetings in foreign capitals, secret recordings in a Moscow hotel, Kremlin agents infiltrating the Trump inner circle... Seth Abramson has tracked every one of these far-flung reports and now in, Proof of Collusion, he finally gives us a record of the unthinkable--a president compromising American foreign policy in exchange for the promise of future business and covert election assistance. The attorney, professor, and former criminal investigator has used his exacting legal mind and forensic acumen to compile, organize, and analyze every piece of the Trump-Russia story. His conclusion is clear: the case for collusion is staring us in the face. Drawing from American and European news outlets, he takes readers through the Trump-Russia scandal chronologically, putting the developments in context and showing how they connect. His extraordinary march through all the public evidence includes: --How Trump worked for thirty years to expand his real estate empire into Russia even as he was rescued from bankruptcy by Putin's oligarchs and Kremlin agents. --How Russian intelligence gathered compromising material on him over multiple trips. --How Trump recruited Russian allies and business partners while running for president. --How he surrounded himself with advisers who engaged in clandestine negotiations with Russia. --How Trump aides and family members held secret meetings with foreign agents and lied about them. By pulling every last thread of this complicated story together, Abramson argues that--even in the absence of a Congressional investigation or a report from Special Counsel Mueller--the public record already indicates a quid pro quo between Trump and the Kremlin. The most extraordinary part of the case for collusion is that so much of it unfolded in plain sight.

Abramson gathers details from a myriad list of legit sources to create this timeline. At times, it‘s all quite overwhelming in its hard hitting truths. But if you need to flesh out the newscasts or articles you‘ve read with even more detail (lots and lots more), I recommend this book. 30% is the endnotes, so it‘s serious sh*t. If you can‘t stomach it all, just read the last chapter.

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m really thinking of counting this for my “Something with Animals” square. What do you think?? #nonfictionchallenge 5y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Happyyyyy dance—it‘s my last square!! 😆😆 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage You are welcome! And great job!!! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thanks. Maybe I‘ll just start it all over for the second half of the year! 🤪 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Hahaha! No, take the time to catch up on some other challenge...if you‘re like me I‘m sure you have a few going. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa You know I do! Still have plenty yet to read ... 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve got 8 squares left there, and 12 letters of my AtoZ (although for that one I have them mostly picked out already), and in Booked about 4 behind...🤷‍♀️ I‘m not following any of my plans really well this year.🤔🤪 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve got quite a few to go for Reading Women and Booked. Just three letters for AtoZ. And I‘m on target for MountTBR, but this is the part of the year I start to struggle with wanting library or new books. (edited) 5y

Starting my latest library book, although if I like defense lawyer Abramson‘s arguments, I may have to buy a copy. His Twitter feed is one of the most cogent and incisive I‘ve read lately, and so far that‘s how the book feels. As an aside, I think my TBR never got the “summer beach reads” message as it usually does. Oh well. 🤪🤓

jchawkins I'm the same way! My TBR right now focuses heavily on indigenous/minority experiences and systemic privilege...definitely not your typical "beach reads" ??‍♀️ 5y
ScrappyMags Man I‘d have to have the actual book as I‘d probably throw it a lot!! Lol (not a Trump fan) 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ScrappyMags That‘s a valid concern for me as well. We‘ll see how it goes! 5y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @jchawkins Glad I‘m not the only one! 5y
ScrappyMags @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😂😂 my poor kindle 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ScrappyMags So far its very readable, as long as I don‘t barf on my phone or Kindle. Abramson knows how to make a case (he‘s a defense attorney). But today I‘m prob going to read something more fun and lighter. 5y

#CurrentlyListening Honestly, the brazenness of Trump‘s behavior has been and continues to be utterly mind boggling.

TheBookAddict It‘s truly disheartening to witness how much he gets away with. I don‘t know how people still support him after all he has done and said. 😔 I will never understand...and I don‘t think I really want to, because then I‘ll probably lose hope in humanity. 5y
dgingo @TheBookAddict Agreed. It‘s disheartening and disappointing and infuriating. 5y

marshallgal81 I have to limit myself on how much I read about him. I just continue to be disgusted and angry that he got in office. 😡 5y
BethM I keep telling myself that the house of cards will fold eventually. But I also keep telling myself that they'll come to their senses and reopen the govt 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Amiable This needs to be over. HE needs to be over. Our country can't take much more of his incompetence, corruption and sociopathic lack of empathy. 5y
kitteh_reads Agreed!!! 5y
TheBookAddict @dgingo yes, it is. 5y
