Hello friends! Just curious if I‘m the only person who struggles with this: do you find it difficult to write book reviews? I find myself struggling to get beyond, “it was good” and “read this book!” 😂😂 I also give almost every book I read five stars 😂😂

Lreads I‘m the same! 👋☺️ 5y
BarkingMadRead Me too, it has to be really bad to get less! If I‘m struggling to finish, I‘ll give it four stars, but I‘m pretty easily amused lol 5y
CBee @BarkingMadRun me too 😂😂 even then I‘m too nice and will do three stars or something 😂 5y

bromeliad I don't, but I've taken a TON of writing classes, where you're expected to consider underlying elements: theme, character differentiation, pacing, word choice, etc. When you're required to notice whether or not a writer is doing these things well, it teaches you to read with a more critical eye. This is both good and bad: I like being able to say WHY I do/don't like something I read, but I also now have a hard time just reading for enjoyment. 😅 5y
CBee @QuietlyLaura the book was good. I liked it! Me every time I finish reading something 😂 5y
CBee @bromeliad that reminds me of why I hated music theory classes. I couldn‘t stand dissecting everything, I just wanted to play the music 🤷‍♀️😁 5y
bromeliad @CBee I can imagine! I had a friend in college who was majoring in music and he said it totally ruined concerts for him and he can't go to any anymore. 5y
AkashaVampie I totally suck at reviewing. If i do review i try to look at others to see if i can spark something to write. 5y
Meaw_catlady It me ! 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I find it hard on here, because of the limited word count. Also, I dont really like to rate things on 5 star system. I prefer the Litsy system, but I wish there was something between so-so & pick. Often I just post a blurb and not a rating if I dont feel strongly about a particular book... IMO, books are meant to be read and not necessarily rated. At least not by me anyhoo. Lol. 5y
Billypar I rationalize giving too many five-star ratings by telling myself that I'm just really good at picking the best books to read 😁 5y
julesG Some reviews are easy, but I also struggle with most. Especially since I don't want to write a recap, but just want to tell people what is good about a book. A lot of reviews are synopses, but don't give info on what's good and what not. 5y
julesG @Billypar That's a great way of looking at it. I always think that it's MY rating, anybody else may think differently. 5y
emz711 Agreed! I don't know how people have book blogs. I guess unless they get paid for it, then maybe I'd come up with something 5y
CBee @bromeliad yes! That‘s exactly it!!! 5y
CBee @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I didn‘t think of it that way! There should totally be a choice between so so and pick. Not sure what, but that‘s a good idea! 5y
CBee @Billypar nailed it 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 5y
CBee @emz711 oh yeah, pay me and I‘ll figure it out for sure 😂😂 5y
CBee @julesG agreed! A lot of times too, I‘ve just finished and am still very much “in” the book. Maybe I should wait longer before trying to write any kind of “review.” 5y

Helpful tips for writing reviews. The cover seems busy and amateurish. Strange wording about authors who are self-published and those who are published through traditional publishers, large or small. The author seems to think that only those who go the traditional route are 'published authors' and indie authors aren't. If a book is out there, no matter if it was done by a large publisher, small publisher, POD, whatever, you're a published author.

Revenge4bess Ok. I have question. A friend of mine said that she had put a book review of my poetry book PORGY‘S REVENGE on Amazon. It never showed up. Can that happen? 4y
MaGoose @Saavylibrarian Yes it can. Although I don't deal with Amazon much at all, I've had reviews be denied for things like mentioning my blog's URL in the review. 4y
Revenge4bess Oh. My friend has apparently tried several times. Unfortunately the review has never shown up. Others have. 4y
