Legless, armless, eyeless. Remains of a strangely mutilated body are discovered in a lake in Stockholm. Great start for this piece of nordic noir, set in Sweden in...1793. Troubled by the afterschocks of the French Revolution, the country's corrupt elite is connected to the sinister discovery, which Winge (the brain) and Cardell (the hands) are decidedly set to elucidate. Lots of snow, violent oppression of women, and a ring come into the picture.

This was soo good! I can't even remember when was the last time I read historical fiction set in Sweden. 🤔 It had some pretty gore moments that reminded me of Stieg Larsson's books. I loved all the historical accuracy and the characters were written so well! I'm looking forward for the next book. 😊

Since I seem to have found my reading flow again I decided to start reading these two. Sofi Oksanen recommended the upper one and I've been waiting to read The tears of my soul for ages. Maybe some horror book after these. 🤔📚

Set in Stockholm in 1793. Gustav III has been dead for a year. You cannot trust anyone and everyone is paranoid. Dreadful days filled with poverty. A torso is found in the water, a man has been murdered. The book is written from for perspectives. My fave is the one about a girl who manages to take on a new identity to escape the police and get a better life. First book in a trilogy. 3,5 stars

This is another novel that sound really interesting. A historical mystery set in Stockholm by a Dutch author.

BarbaraBB I think the author is Swedish! 4y
JazzFeathers @BarbaraBB Ooops! Right. I don't know why l wrote Dutch 😶 4y
BarbaraBB Never mind, it‘s just that I noticed because his name seemed so not-Dutch. 4y

A great crime novel by a Swedish author who shares an office with Fredrik Backman. 4 ⭐️
Just saw @Liberty posting on twitter about 1793 being published in the USA Today. The title was changed to The Wolf and the Watchman.

Tamra I am so anxious to read Wolf & the Watchman. I need to check this other novel out when I can! (edited) 5y
ErikasMindfulShelf @Tamra It‘s the same novel. It‘s called 1793 in Sweden. 5y
Tamra @irre thank you for the clarification, before I went on a wild goose chase. 😜 5y

En bok av män för män. Inga kvinnliga karaktärer på första 100 sidor. Kvinnor som nämns är namnlösa prostituerade eller kokar gröt. För övrigt smuts och supande - troligen realistisk beskrivning av 1700-talet. (Dock 1an hos bokhandlarna)
