Library of Greek Mythology
Library of Greek Mythology | Apollodorus
13 posts | 5 read | 11 to read
The only work of its kind to survive from classical antiquity, the Library of Apollodorus is a unique guide to Greek mythology, from the origins of the universe to the Trojan War. Apollodorus' Library has been used as a source book by classicists from the time of its compilation in the 1st-2nd century BC to the present, influencing writers from antiquity to Robert Graves. It provides a complete history of Greek myth, telling the story of each of the great families of heroic mythology, and the various adventures associated with the main heroes and heroines, from Jason and Perseus to Heracles and Helen of Troy. As a primary source for Greek myth, as a reference work, and as an indication of how the Greeks themselves viewed their mythical traditions, the Library is indispensable to anyone who has an interest in classical mythology. Robin Hard's accessible and fluent translation is supplemented by comprehensive notes, a map and full genealogical tables. The introduction gives a detailed account of the Library's sources and situates it within the fascinating narrative traditions of Greek mythology. About the Series: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the broadest spectrum of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, voluminous notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

✨I might have a small obsession with Greek mythology, but uhhh... this is Hera. 😍 I decided that Athena, Nyx, and Perseus needed a little sister. She enjoys sleeping, whining, chewing on bookmarks, and the occasional book sleeve when the urge arises.

I got this today from my brother, and while I don't have time to read it now, I've had a dip into the introduction, where I find that it's referred to by Photius, 9th century patriarch of Constantinople. The reference, rather coolly, is contained in a letter to his brother, in what is essentially a book blog where Photius summarises and gives his opinion on books he's read. Apparently, Appolodorus is one of the few that has survived down the years

Morning beautiful souls 🖤🌻

So, I finished rereading Apollodorus yesterday and delved back into FFtMC for #everdene2018 which I have to say is going very slowly whilst I struggle to get through the Malthouse chapter which seems unnecessary and tedious if I‘m honest. It doesn‘t seem to be important to the story at all. I‘m really enjoying the book other than this random chapter. 🙎🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

How are you all? #bookaddict #booklover #bookblog

JazzFeathers I and the #YearOfTolkien ladies are back to Tolkien with the Lost Road (l have missed reading Tolkien these last couple of weeks). I'm also reading a Netgalley ARC. Fantasy story set in China-like world, but after all quite faithful to the classic 'Farm boy' trope. 6y

Finished rereading Apollodorus this morning and really, I do love this version of the Greek myths. 🌻

Going to be starting Clade tonight and I am so very excited! It's one of my most anticipated releases of this year and comes out 5th September! 🌻#greekmythology #apollodorus #oxfordworldsclassics #booklover #bookstagram #bookblogger #bibliophile #met_createchange

Rainy day, fun! So I'm reading more of the Library whilst I wait for my dear child to come back from a drive with her grandparents. I feel pretty low today which sucks but it's always better to air it? Right? 🌻

Also, I have a really big (important to me) question for all my followers over on my blog. 🌻 #oxfordworldsclassics #apollodorus #greekmythology #bookblogger #booklover

Hello again. Apologies for the absence but I am returned. 🌻

I feel to get over the last week I'm in need of a overall refresh and decided to extend that to my book blogging platforms too. So, new theme. ☕️

I'm currently rereading excerpts from Apollodorus' Library because when I'm feeling low I like to return to books that made me happy. What are you all currently reading? 🌻 #apollodorus #greekmyth #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile

Are mythology tattoos bookish? I don't know, I could go either way. This is my Staff of Asklepios tattoo, which I got on the tenth anniversary of my uni graduation. #riotgrams #bookriot #bookishtattoos

Eta: on reflection, I had to read a buttload of books to graduate, so!

Gissy Nice! 👌🏼 7y
