It Begins In Betrayal
It Begins In Betrayal | Iona Whishaw

The fourth book in what the Globe and Mail has proclaimed a terrific series by a writer to watch. Summer descends over the picturesque Kings Cove as Darling and Lanes mutual affection blossoms. But their respite from solving crime is cut short when a British government official arrives in Nelson to compel Darling to return to England for questioning about the death of a rear gunner under his command in 1943. In Darlings absence, Ames oversees the investigation into the suspicious death of a local elderly woman and uncovers a painful betrayal inflicted forty years earlier. Meanwhile, Lane follows Darling to London, where he is charged with murder and faces hanging. While desperately seeking answers, Lane is presented with a proposal that could save the man she loves, but only if she returns to the very life she sought to leave behind.

Number 4 in the Lane Winslow series (a favorite), this is yet another wonderful addition. There‘s a lot going on in this one (actually four different story arcs!), but don‘t let that scare you. It‘s not confusing as really two are related and one of the other two is a past story to help explain a current one. I won‘t go into all the details (it would take awhile LOL), but what I love about Winslow‘s writing is her character building and her 🔻

robinb engrossing plots. Lane, in some ways, is a mysterious heroine, but as her backstory is peeled back, at her heart she is courageous, spunky and totally someone I‘d like to call a friend. 5/5⭐️
This was my May #BookSpin.

My last review of the morning and I‘ll be all caught up!

This is the 4th book in the Lane Winslow series. A government man comes to Canada and convinces Darling to come to London about a war time issue. Lane follows him and good thing she does because Darling is in prison for murder! So the mystery ensues also while Ames is solving a mystery back in Canada.

I really love this series!

Another fabulous Lane Winslow mystery. I think this was my favourite so far. Lane returns to post WWII England to clear her beau‘s name. Meanwhile another mystery unfolds in Canada. I will keep reading these until I am done the entire series♥️📚.

Loved it. So happy to have a new (and Canadian) series to enjoy. While I started here with #4, I wasn't lost at all. I look forward to reading the next instalment but to also go back to the first three.

Just starting this and I'm loving it already. Its reminding me that I have most of Maureen Jenning's Tom Tyler series to finish! This is more of what I'm in the mood for, yes it's entirely different subject matter from Mamaskatch and it's cozier kind of fiction. But it's calling my name right now.

I loved this entry in the Lane Winslow series! While our main characters (Lane, Darling, & Ames) are separated for most of the book, I was still invested in each of their storylines and looked forward to reading it. Can‘t wait for the next book!! I voluntarily reviewed a copy provided by the publisher.

5⭐️Inspector Darling is at the center of a murder investigation. His wartime service and leadership are questioned as he is accused of murdering one his men. Lane quickly realizes this has the fingerprints of a Special Service cover up all over it. She has to use every skill learned while in Service to unmask the killer and piece together what really happened that tragic night so long ago.
