Unfortunately I don't have have any good things to say about this one. I did find the concept interesting though so I did read more online about the tradition of ghost brides in China.

Picked one from my shelves to start March off with. I had no idea it was a graphic novel though. It was one that randomly caught my eye at one of the big yearly library sales.

I requested this from the library after reading about it in a Book Riot newsletter. It opens with a quote from The Economist about the reappearance of the tradition of corpse brides in rural China. I enjoyed the art and the story, which incorporates a bit of the history with the modern story. #graphicnovel

This book was not good. I chose it solely because I loved the cover so much, though, and I still think it is amazing. #allthebooksof2017 #favoritebookcoverof2017

The art on the cover was gorgeous. The art inside the book is nothing like it. There are some really excellent pages, but the majority of the pages are amateurish. I really loved the concept of corpse brides, but the book didn't deliver. I hated the instant love between the main two characters.

Besides the beautiful art on the front cover (which does not extend to the actual book itself), I have literally nothing good to say about this book. It was absolutely dreadful and I have a full review up on http://howlinglibraries.com if anyone is interested or wants to discuss!

I thought I was going to love this. The concept is really intriguing - ghost brides in China. Some of the watercolor art is beautiful. But the characters are all awful. There was not a single one I liked. And the story was all over the place. The whole "I'm going to kill you, no wait, I love you" thing is super messed up. No thanks. I posted a picture of the cover because it is the best part of this entire book. Stunning.

Some gorgeous illustrations in this comic set in China. Deshi's brother has just died and he needs to find him a bride for the afterlife. That is, a dead woman. He gets tangled up with Lily Chen who runs away from her parents and rural village life. A little dark but funny at times.

Great graphic novel set in northern China. Deshi needs a corpse bride for his older brother's funeral and Lily needs to escape her arranged marriage. Together they set off on an adventure, and stumble upon love....

I could have done with a couple hundred more pages.
