All My Sins Remembered
All My Sins Remembered | Joe Haldeman
2 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
In this powerful, provocative SF classic from the award-winning author of The Forever War, a young man of peace is transformed into an intergalactic killer. Once Otto McGavin was a kind and gentle soul; then he was recruited by the all-powerful Confederacin. An ultrasecretive, government-linked organization, the Confederacins stated mission of protecting threatened life, both human and alien, throughout the galaxy greatly appeals to the Anglo-Buddhist McGavin as he eagerly prepares to embark on a career of diplomacy and selfless works. But Ottos new masters have other plans for the idealistic young recruit. Through a process of immersion therapy and hypnosis, and by encasing him in temporary bodies of plastiflesh, scientists can overlay Ottos true persona with other ones, transforming him completelybody, mind, and soulinto the ruthlessly effective prime operator the Confederacin wants him to be. But decades of interstellar subterfuge and violence, and years spent wearing the personae of spies and cold-blooded killers, must ultimately take their tolland before he leaves behind the lives that have been cruelly thrust upon him, Otto McGavin will have to somehow come to terms with who he really is and the monstrous things he has done. One of the most powerful and thought-provoking stories from the Hugo and Nebula Awardwinning author of Worlds and The Forever War, Joe Haldemans All My Sins Remembered is a stunning work of speculative fiction. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Joe Haldeman including rare images from the authors personal collection.

And now onto Joe Haldeman. I hope it lives up to the last book I read. Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others was so good that I feel like I'm going to disappointed by the next few books I read.

RamsFan1963 This is one of my all time favorite books!! I've recommended it several times to people just beginning to dip their toes in the sci-fi genre. I hope you enjoy it. 5y
SpaceCowboyBooks Thanks @RamsFan1963 I'll let you know what I think in a few days. 5y
SaraFair Gonna try it! There are lots of Haldeman options at my local used bookstore. I just keep grabbing Heinlein. Lol. 5y

SpaceCowboyBooks @SaraFair Can't go wrong with Heinlein. So far this one is pretty good. You might also like Scalzi's Old Man's War. 5y
SaraFair I LOVED Old Man‘s War and went crazy reading all but the last one of the series! I want to try other Scalzi too, but did not care for Redshirts. Suggestions? 5y
SpaceCowboyBooks @SaraFair If you dig militaristic space opera the Hellhole trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson was pretty good. 5y
SaraFair I have just been on your website and I will be using it a lot I see! I can probably go crazy at the local used bookstore now. I didn‘t really think of Old Mans War as militaristic, I loved the part about getting a new body with the same brain and also learning about a book‘s aliens. I also loved the Sparrow and Ancillary Justice. 👍🏻👍🏻 5y

My literary sins?

I‘ve never read The Catcher in the Rye.
I never use the library.
I cannot (will not?) read a book in an “ugly” edition (this is subjective, of course 😆).
I “neglected to return” a copy of The Outsiders to my classroom library in junior high. #BookThief

Thanks for the fun giveaway contest, @MatchlessMarie ! ❤️

Melissa_J I‘ve never read Catcher, and I never use the library either (well, except for the odd e-book) 😬 6y
AlaMich Re: reading ugly editions....I am so that way too! In fact, yesterday I went to the library to get Pride and Prejudice in the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition, which I knew they had. I couldn‘t find it and asked a librarian. She led me back to the shelf saying, it‘s all Austen, what difference does it make? Well, I may be paraphrasing, but that‘s what she meant!! I don‘t want to read the old, ugly, tiny hardcovers you have! 6y
Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve read catcher in the rye twice and hated it both times. Somehow I feel like this has levelled us out in book karma or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Hooked_on_books So the big question is, do you still have that copy of the Outsiders? 6y
