Esme's Wish
Esme's Wish | Elizabeth Foster
10 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 10 to read
When fifteen-year-old Esme Silver objects at her father’s wedding, her protest is dismissed as the actions of a stubborn, selfish teenager. Everyone else has accepted the loss of Esme’s mother, Ariane – so why can’t she? But Esme is suspicious. She is sure that others are covering up the real reason for her mother’s disappearance – that ‘lost at sea’ is code for something more terrible, something she has a right to know. After Esme is accidentally swept into the enchanted world of Aeolia, the truth begins to unfold. With her newfound friends, Daniel and Lillian, Esme retraces her mother’s steps in the glittering canal city of Esperance, untangling the threads of Ariane’s double life. But the more Esme discovers about Ariane, the more she questions whether she really knew her at all.

Have you ever wished for something lost to be found?

Esme is a young girl, full of unwavering hope, who has continued to wish for the same thing: that her mother, Ariane, lost at sea many years ago, is still alive and will return home. Long after everyone else has given up, Esme still believes that her mother‘s return is possible...

I‘m going on to ‘Esme‘s Wish‘, received through LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Though it‘s YA fantasy, it starts off with a perfectly normal (well, almost) wedding in a church. The premise (one chapter in) is reminiscent of Sarah Zettel‘s ‘A Sorceror‘s Treason‘; a daughter of a lighthouse keeper, a mysterious mother lost to the water.
Published in 2017 but set in 1988

This is an engaging adventure suitable for young adults, and it is age-appropriate for a younger reader. The bonds of friendship Esme forms are refreshing to read as romance does not enter the picture. I always say there is so much more to stories than romance. It is just as important for young readers to learn how to form friendships. #fantasy #youngadult

E is for Esme‘s Wish, which I adored!

For me, Esme‘s feelings and the small indignities that come of being in a blended family were all too real!

The world of Aeolia is so, so beautiful. The vibrant colors and descriptions, the magic and mystery, and the creatures are all so enticing. This world encouraged my imagination to soar into the sky with the colorful and powerful dragons, just before delving deep into the waters with sirens, if the rays and ghosts didn‘t get me first 😉

First in the series, First book by this author, First review on Litsy...

Esme, who's mum has disappeared and even though everyone else has stopped looking for her, will not give up hope of finding her. Targeted to younger teens this book has DRAGONS yay, and other magic and adventure. Book 2 is being written for release by the end of the year.
