The Shadow Killer
The Shadow Killer | Arnaldur Indridason
7 posts | 4 read | 5 to read
Reykjavk, August 1941. When a travelling salesman is found murdered in a basement flat, killed by a bullet from a Colt 45, the police initially suspect a member of the Allied occupation force. The British are in the process of handing over to the Americans and the streets are crawling with servicemen whose relations with the local women are a major cause for concern. Flvent, Reykjavks sole detective, is joined by the young military policeman Thorson. Their investigation focuses on a family of German residents, the retired doctor Rudolf Lunden and his estranged son Felix, who is on the run, suspected of being a spy. Flvent and Thorson race to solve the case before US Counterintelligence can take it out of their hands, amid rumours of a pending visit by Churchill. As evidence emerges of dubious experiments carried out on Icelandic schoolboys in the 1930s,Thorson becomes increasingly suspicious of the role played by the murdered mans former girlfriend, Vera, and her British soldier lover.

Mehso-so

I'm going to be a party pooper and call this just a so-so. The English title doesn't really work for the story; it makes the book seem like it will be sinister and mysterious, when it's more of a police procedural with WW2 added. I read and liked The Shadow District, but this book felt repetitive and less compelling than its predecessor.

My friend brought me back a souvenir from her trip: stroopwafels from Amsterdam! 😋 Not sure I want to share them with the BF 😂

saresmoore Mmmm...(don‘t share) 6y
Karkar Do not share. They are too yummy! Your bunny mug is cute. ❤️ 6y
rabbitprincess @saresmoore 😈😄 I am too nice. I ended up telling him that if he wanted one, he had to have two, because I don't like when he leaves odd numbers of cookies 😂 He probably won't take me up on that... @Karkar Thanks! It's a mug for the Ladybird Animal Sanctuary, which was co-founded by Melissa McClelland, one of my favourite singers. 6y

👏🏼🤗👏🏼

This is the second book in the most recent series by this author. These books take place in the early 1940‘s in Iceland. Love the intrigue of WWII added to the mix. The crime fighting team of Flovent and Thorson is a winner. I will definitely go back and pick up The Shadow District, the first book of the series. #netgalley

This was a very enjoyable murder mystery set in Iceland in WWII. This is the second in the Flovent and Thorson series but it is also able to stand alone and I don't think I missed out on any enjoyment by reading this out of order. Took me a little bit to get invested in the characters but once I was in I didn't want to put it down. I'll be looking for more from this author
(Thanks to Netgalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.)3.5🌟

I‘m about to head to bed and saw that my litfluence is almost at 5000. How very exciting and so glad I found this place in March! Tag me in some #LitsyLove if you want to join in! 💙 saw a post on Library Thing 💙 I‘ve been tracking since 2011. Aim for 75-100 a year (some years don‘t come close) 💙 so much! I see so many great recommendations. 💙The Shadow Killer. Hope to finish this weekend

I started to read The Witches of Eastwick but wasn‘t in the mood for it and the ice storm kept flicking our power off. Switched to reading this ARC on my phone that I‘m behind on. Pretty good so far. Sometimes I just need a good old murder mystery.

hissingpotatoes I tried reading Witches of Eastwick twice before realizing it just Was Not For Me. 6y
Chellebearss @hissingpotatoes I‘ve read a bunch from Updike and usually like him. I think I was just not in a good mood for it. I‘ll try again 😀 6y
Swe_Eva Ooh, Indriðason is one of my favorites! 6y
Chellebearss @Swe_Eva This is my first :-) 6y
Swe_Eva @Chellebearss I‘ve not read this one, though, but the earlier one are wonderful. 6y

Why yes I did place a hold on the second book in Arnaldur Indridason's new series without having read the first one yet 😁 The first one *is* in transit, and the second one won't be released until May, so there's a bit of time yet.

Dulcinella I like his books too! 6y
Karkar I have so done that with other authors 🤓📚❤️ 6y
rabbitprincess @Dulcinella Yay! @Karkar Glad it's not just me! 6y
