My So-Called Bollywood Life
My So-Called Bollywood Life | Nisha Sharma

The romance of Stephanie Perkins meets the quirk of Maureen Johnson, then gets a Bollywood twist in this fate-filled debut that takes the future into its own hands. Winnie Mehta was never really convinced that Raj was her soul mate, but their love was written in the stars. Literally, a pandit predicted Winnie would find the love of her life before her eighteenth birthday, and Raj meets all the qualifications. Which is why Winnie is shocked when she returns from her summer at film camp to find her boyfriend of three years hooking up with Jenny Dickens. As a self-proclaimed Bollywood expert, Winnie knows this is not how her perfect ending is scripted. Then there's Dev, a fellow film geek and one of the few people Winnie can count on. Dev is smart and charming, and he challenges Winnie to look beyond her horoscope and find someone she'd pick for herself. But does falling for Dev mean giving up on her prophecy and her chance to live happily ever after? To find her perfect ending, Winnie will need a little bit of help from fate, family, and of course, a Bollywood movie star.

Cute premise. Each chapter begins with a review of a Bollywood movie. But, overall, the plot was a bit lackluster.

Super adorable Bollywood-style YA romance that takes place in Princeton, NJ. 💯 recommend.

Just started listening to this audiobook, narrated by Priya Ayar, who also narrated the audiobook I just finished listening to. Always throws me for a loop when that happens.

I really wanted to like this book, but I just found it rather boring. The writing wasn‘t very engaging, the main character kept saying she was her own hero and didn‘t need a boy to save her, but she kept letting boys save her and make big gestures, and there wasn‘t much growth. I didn‘t even bother to finish it.

This book totally did not work for me. Definitely fell on the Young side of YA. The main character is a 17 year old girl who is told over and over that she should not have chosen her future and best chance at college over a boy she had been dating only for weeks. Everyone thinks she was wrong and she makes it up to them all by quitting something important to her just to prove a point. Terrible message to send yo teens.

This was cute. I had read a review note somewhere which sold me that this was an updated YA version of the '90s movie "Only You", which is one of my favorites but in reading it I didn't quite get that. It still has the fun trope of "stop chasing the perfect guy and fall in love with the guy who's perfect for you" & I'd still recommend it but I was hoping it would be a little closer to the movie. A nice light YA romance for those who are looking ?

This was a cute read. Not very deep, but enjoyable. I think the characters could have used a bit more development, especially Dev, who kinda came across as domineering and macho...but I don‘t think he was supposed to.

Haven't started the book yet but LOVE the cover!! Also, I've been MIA for a long time dealing with mental health issues, and one of the things that really helped me through it was reading books as they helped distract me and motivate me to get through my problems. Books are the real GOAT ❤❤❤

Such a cute book! Winnie breaks up w the boyfriend she was supposedly prophesied to be w forever, only to fall for someone else &discover destiny isn't so easy to escape...it just might not be the destiny she thinks. Basically an adorable, lighthearted bollywood-esque romcom.

One part where everyone implied Winnie was choosing her future over her new boyfriend (&got mad at her for it) did annoy me, but mostly a really cute, really fun read!
