Are you a Global Vagabond? No, but 18-year-old Bria wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a tour of Central Americathe wrong one. Middle-aged tourists are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. So when Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspoken sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path. Bria's a good girl trying to go bad. Rowan's a bad boy trying to stay good. As they travel through Mayan villages and remote Belizean islands, they discover they're both seeking to leave behind the old versions of themselves. The secret to escaping the past, Rowan's found, is to keep moving forward. But Bria realizes she can't run forever. At some point, you have to look back.

For #readingtheamericas2023 I selected this title for Belize. This isn't a book that has a lot to teach or focused on a serious topic. This is just fun and light and an escape. Quick read and the county came to life for me through the eyes of our FMC. #bookspin @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @TheAromaofBooks

BarbaraBB It‘s good to have a book for Belize anyhow! 1y

Was this the most original book ever? No. Was it great anyway? Yes! Ignore the cheesy title & the well-trodden plot: insecure girl takes off traveling to find herself. Bria‘s state of mind was believable & totally realistic. I also loved the authenticity of the backpacking experience. Starling is definitely a girl I‘ve met before, and Rowan was just perfect. But some of the conflict felt manufactured. And the ending felt too tied in a bow. 7/10⭐️

So far, this book is cute and light but also compelling and relatable and well-written. Perfect for what I‘m in the mood for!

Chachic This was a lovely travel-focused YA romance. #romantsy #youngadult 7y

So glad to have reread this one was so great reading about places that I had just seen in person. This is the book that inspired me to go to Guatemala. I'm so glad I went as it was an amazing adventure!

I really love seeing the real life places that I'd only previously read about in books. Currently Bria is at Lake Atitlan the deepest lake in Guatemala & surrounded by volcanoes. I didn't get to see it as she did on a beautiful sunny day with the colors all amplified in the lake. But even as the rain clouds roll in it is a gorgeous thing to see.
