Loved this. Life as a police officer on the Isles of Scilly, where I spent many childhood holidays. It‘s a proper comfort read - there are cats, birds, chases, bombs, stag parties and a high number of ridiculous situations. I really liked his humour - he manages to take the mick, without ever being disrespectful to the islanders.

Plus OLD Scilly bookmarks- the one on the left is at least 36!

rockpools @mrsmarch Fun! Do count me in, if a crazy international bookclub happens š - I‘m very used to being one of the Rachels! Admirable Rachels... I don‘t think I have any. That‘s bad!! Rachel Lynde in Anne of Green Gables (gossip!), there was a Rachel in one of the Barbara Kingsolver books (poisonwood bible perhaps?) but I‘m pretty sure she wasn‘t admirable... I‘m going to have to think about this one!!! 5y

This is the perfect antidote to a dreary rainy weekend. Policing on the Isles of Scilly may not be as fast-paced as it is on the mainland, but there is no shortage of unusual activities. The writing is warm and light, with plenty of self-deprecation. Very much recommended š
